EIGHTY

I went home that day with a great sense of accomplishment. Ruby didn't speak for half the journey back home and I called her then she said,"You shouldn't have done that, now Rose is going to be angry."

"Like I said, I'm not scared of Rose...but that story your grandpa said...what did he mean?"

She was quiet for a few seconds then said,"When I was born, my parents didn't want me because the doctor said I had the genetics of a dyslexic person. They tried to leave me at the hospital but weren't allowed, so they took me to a terrible orphanage in a different country just to forget about me. I was maltreated there so ran away when I was three, I had to live on the streets and fend for myself for four years. Meanwhile, during that time, my grandmother somehow stumbled upon my birth certificate which they hadn't discarded. She told my grandfather and he searched all around the world just to find me then brought me back. That's my life."

I felt so sorry for her, she didn't deserve a family like that. No wonder she never trusted anyone.

I saw a tear stream down her cheek and wiped it with my thumb, looked into her eyes then said,"I'm sorry you have such a terrible nuclear family."

Then I hugged her and she didn't push me away, but rather, hugged me back.

I went to Mark and he smiled at me and said,"So?"

"Aw come on, I don't like her, we're just friends."

"Tommy and Ruby, sitting in a tree, k- i- s..."

I chased him before he got the chance to finish.

Ruby looked at us playing on her way out and chuckled.

At Ruby's mansion, when her grandparents had left the dining room, Rose walked to her parents with a smile and said,"Mother, father, I have a way to prove to grandma and grandpa that their little jewel is actually a rough in the diamond."

Her parents looked at each other when they heard this evil irony, then began to smile.

Her father pulled her closer and said,"Speak my little rosebud."

After that, Rose went to Ruby and said,"Hey little sis, I don't want us to fight anymore, so I decided why don't we make a treaty, become real sisters?"

"What's the catch?"

"Well you give me a good report to grandpa and I don't lose my share of the company."

Ruby knew it was making a deal with the actual devil, but she had no other choice.

"Fine."Ruby said.

She took Douglas, her Wolfhound for a walk.

Rose smiled and took her phone then called someone...

Ruby was on the street when a robber just came in front of her, holding a penknife and wearing a gun on his belt, he said,"Give me all your money or I will put iron in you."

She stretched her hand out telling him to stay back then said,"Okay, fine..."

She reached into her pocket then quickly gripped his knife wielding wrist and elbowed him in the chin with her other arm.

He yelled and she twisted his wrist but he didn't drop it, then she threw him over her shoulder and he landed with a thud.

He shrilled and finally dropped it. She was about to kick it away but he pulled her leg and she fell.

She kicked him in the nose with her other leg and he let go, then she ran and picked the knife.

She was about to throw it away but he quickly came and held it and they struggled then she headbutted him.

He still didn't let go and he arched their hands down.

She sent them up again and he pinned her to a wall, bringing the knife much closer to her eye than comfortable.

She turned her head to the side so it stabbed the wall then she kneed him in his third leg, then punched him across the face when he bent down.

He held the knife again and they struggled again then he pulled it closer to himself and she gasped when the pain was felt.

There was blood all over her hands and he coughed. It had stabbed him.

She didn't mean for that to happen.

She started apologizing as he coughed and was about to call an ambulance when someone just held her hand and pulled her away.

She was confused as the person said,"Time for you to run."

He took her behind a wall and looked to see if there was anyone there and she pulled her hand from his and said,"Who on earth are you and what are you doing?!"

He turned to her, showing his irresistible Asian face, raven black hair and sea blue eyes then he said,"Oh sorry, I'm Mack and you need to run from the cops."

"What? That man is injured, he needs help."

"Not from you, I just met you, but I already know you're too pretty to go to jail."

She frowned and walked away. He shouted from behind her,"No good deed goes unpunished!"

She just ignored that psycho and called a cab then took the man to the hospital.

I got a message on my phone at about midnight and since I was sleeping on Mark's bed and he was still working, he saw it.

He woke me up and said we had to leave.

I met Ruby's parents, sister and grandparents in a hospital room with a man on the bed.

Her father yelled at her,"How could you be so stupid?! It's definitely your dyslexia! Why didn't you just give him the money?!"

Her grandmother stepped in front of her and said,"Get out."

He stormed out of the room. She turned to Ruby, pushed some hair from her face and said,"I'm sorry this happened."

Rose was smiling, I could tell she was up to something, but her grandfather seemed worried.

He turned to Ruby and said,"What happened?"

"I was just walking Douglas when he attacked me, I tried to defend myself and for some reason he stabbed himself."

"You're lying!"Her mother snapped.

Her grandfather calmly said,"Go to your husband Emily."

She also angrily left.

He put his hand on her shoulder and said,"I knew you'd never fail me, my little jewel."

The man finally woke up and the cops came closer to him, talked to him a little then finally asked,"Would you like to press charges?"

He looked at Ruby then smiled and looked back at the cops then said,"Yes."
