Tired and thirsty, Yang Mi forced herself to stand up. She didn't care whether her chest was hurting or not for as long as she could get her hands on a glass of water.
The fact that she possessed a human body now was a horrible truth and her reality. If she could, she wanted to go back to being a ghost but unfortunately, she didn't how to turn back and she was also confused at why would she turn into a human in the first place.
Perhaps, she could use her spiritual power to get a glass of water and return to her original state.
Thinking like this, she tried to use her power to make a glass of water appear in front of her. It was such an easy task for her. She only needed to imagine it and it will instantly appear.
Or so she hoped it would.
Even after trying to imagine it in detail, the glass of water that should appear once she called it to materialize in front of her didn't appear. Nothing was in front of her nor was she holding on to something that resembled a glass of water.
There was nothing at all.
She tried to imagine herself in her translucent ghost form this time but like the water, it did nothing to her.
Her eyes fluttered open and stared at the great space before her. She tried tapping on her power so she could float or move the things around her but even after sweating buckets and popping a vein in her forehead, nothing moved!
What was happening?!
Where was her spiritual power?
Yang Mi was dumbfounded.
Feeling dizzy and dejected at the loss of her spiritual power, she laid back down to the bed and stared at the ceiling.
Closing her eyes, she calmed herself down. Even if she tried to complain and cry over this, nothing will really change.
When suddenly, something in her head chimed and rang loudly.
Ttiring!
[Host's remaining life: 16 minutes and 34 seconds!]
Yang Mi: ?!
Ttiring!
[Host's remaining life: 15 minutes and 18 seconds!]
The voice rang again. It was an electronic voice that sounded like a child.
Springing up from the bed, Yang Mi clutched her chest as she looked around. Glaring hard at anything that she could suspect would possess the ability to speak.
She wondered if there was a strong ghost that has appeared and attacked her. She didn't sense any ghostly forms around her that could play a prank on her by making her hear this electronic voice.
However, nothing was around her.
Everything was clear aside from the constant beeping sound from the machines beside her bed.
So, where did that voice came from?
And what did it mean by 'Host's Life Remaining'?
As if to answer her question, the electronic voice rang inside her head once again.
This time, its phrase changed to answer her.
[The Ghostly Romance System has started!]
Uh…
What?
Yang Mi frowned and wanted to clean her ears to check if she was hearing things right. What Ghostly Romance?
Bullshit!
She ain't got the time to waste on some silly voices ringing in her ears! She needed water or she'll die from thirst!
Like a vengeful spirit, Yang Mi pulled the tube that was attached to her arm. She hissed at the stinging pain that soon came after she pulled it away from her and saw that a silver needle was attached at the tip of it.
Once nothing was attached to her, Yang Mi tried to shift on the bed and get out of it. She didn't notice that because of her movements, her hospital gown came loose and plenty amount of skin from her slender back was peeking out.
At this moment, the door opened and several people came in. One of them was the young man who deprived her of her precious water and left her alone.
The others were some unfamiliar faces she's never seen. However, she could tell that they were part of the hospital staff as they wore the nurse's uniforms and a doctor's lab coat.
Despite being a ghost, Yang Mi had a lot of spare time to get to know the human world. She roamed too much and watched too many drama series that she knew a lot of things about the human world.
Thus, there should be no problem if she were to ever come across them.
Over the years she lived, humans who could see ghosts were not rare although they're also not that many as well. But that didn't mean she had never come across them hence, once she was in front of these humans in a nurse's uniforms and a doctor's lab coat, Yang Mi was confident that she would be able to act like a human once again.
"Miss, that's dangerous. You shouldn't move too much since you just woke up after the surgery." The doctor told her as he peered at her face.
Yang Mi narrowed her eyes at him as he watched her. The gaze that the doctor was using to look at her sent shivers under her skin. What was the problem with this doctor? Why was he looking at her like he was a chef who needed to know the ingredients used to bake an exotic snack?
While she was thinking and glaring at the doctor, the doctor who was assigned to her was also wondering why his best friend told him to be extra careful with her?
Before he disappeared to finish his work, Kaisar didn't forget to remind Lu He Yan to make sure she lives and take care of her while he was away.
Just who is this young lady?
Was she his secret lover or something?
Nevertheless, this young lady was extremely beautiful. He suddenly wondered whether her inner organs looked as beautiful as she looked outside?
Feeling disappointed that he wasn't the one who did the surgery and just became the assigned doctor to the girl because Kaisar asked the president of the hospital, Lu He Yan wished he could dissect Yang Mi and look at her organs to see if It's as beautiful as she looked.
"Doctor?" The voice of one of the nurses brought him back to Earth.
Smiling brightly, Lu He Yan decided to banish all his curiosities and said, "Hello, are you feeling alright? I'm the doctor assigned to watch over you while you recover. I am Doctor Lu He Yan."
...
NOTE:
The System part in the story is not the focus. So fret not because you will not always see it popping out in the future chapters. It will just be part of the story as a subplot.
