Luo Xiyun stood in front of the balcony and burst into tears while gazing at the golden sunshine.
After standing transfixed for a couple of minutes, she thought of telling the great news to Chen Xu. She rushed back into the room and shook Chen Xu all the while expressing with excitement, "Get up, the snow has stopped and the sun is out, qui-…Chen Xu, what's going on with you?"
She shook him a few times only to realize that something wasn't right with Chen Xu. His face was pale, and his eyes were lifeless like he had contracted some serious illness. Luo Xiyun was taken aback.
"I might have caught a cold." Chen Xu revealed a smile with strain.
Luo Xiyun extended her palm to touch his forehead. She said, "I'll go get medicine."
Seeing her rummaging through the cabinet, Chen Xu felt a little heavy on the inside. He had a hunch that this was probably not an illness. His entire body was wobbly, and he couldn't seem to exert any strength. It wasn't as unbearable as the common cold and fever, and he wasn't experiencing any discomfort.
In a while, Luo Xiyun finally found the medicine box. She poured a glass of water, fumbled upon some cold pills, and helped him with it.
"Have a good rest. I'll go prepare some porridge." Upon finishing, she helped Chen Xu with the quilt, exited the room, and gently closed the door.
A moment after lying down, Chen Xu felt his eyelids getting heavier, and swiftly, he closed his eyes.
...
When Chen Xu opened his eyes again, he saw Luo Xiyun lying on the bedside just like the last time when he was injured and unconscious.
He struggled to lower his head and found out that his clothes had changed. His heart sank.
"You're awake," Luo Xiyun said with excitement as she awoke.
Seeing her bloodshot eyes, Chen Xu asked, "How long have I slept?"
"Not long." A gentle smile appeared on her face as she shifted the conversation topic. "I made porridge. Come have some." As she spoke, she poured a bowl of porridge from the thermos flask at the side.
Chen Xu was very cooperative. He managed to finish a bowl of porridge and chattered with her for a moment. Then, his eyelids grew heavy again, and he quickly lost consciousness.
...
The second time he woke up, Luo Xiyun wasn't in the room. This time, his clothes had changed yet again. He couldn't help but sigh. He turned his head around strenuously and glanced at the electronic clock above the bedside.
Two days had passed since he first passed out. In other words, he would wake up every other day.
"Fuck."
After getting the picture, he couldn't hold back his curses.
About ten minutes later, he lost consciousness again.
...
The third time he woke up, Luo Xiyun was lying beside him.
As soon as he moved, she felt it and looked up at him.
The orange lamp on the bedside was lit. She'd decided to keep this lamp turned on. Its glow was gentle, making the atmosphere particularly great.
She had different makeup today. Her bright red lips were highlighting a cold and glamorous temperament.
She moved to his ear and whispered, "I've got everything prepared, so when you're ready…"
Chen Xu struggled as he said, "You get up and let's chat for a while, okay?"
All of a sudden, Luo Xiyun grabbed his collar and said furiously, "Are you telling me that you can't do it now? Are you a man? You jerk, get up now! Get up…"
Chen Xu allowed her to vent as his heart surged in bitterness.
Luo Xiyun was an introverted person. He had never seen her as emotionally agitated as she was now. Evidently, over the past few days where he had fallen into unconsciousness, she was already on the verge of collapsing.
After a while, Chen Xu's eyelids were becoming heavy again. Knowing that time was running out, he said quietly, "Sorry." Subsequently, his eyelids grew heavier, and before plummeting into absolute darkness, he faintly heard someone crying.
...
It was the last day of the dream.
Chen Xu woke up for the last time. He couldn't seem to open his eyes because of the dazzlingly bright light.
"You're awake." Luo Xiyun's voice came from beside. This time, her voice seemed very tranquil.
Swiftly, his eye adapted to the surrounding light and he could clearly perceive the scenery in front of him. The blue sky was like a sapphire dome. At the edge of the snowy horizon, a golden sun was rising slowly, smearing all of the icy world in a blanket of golden light.
He had never seen such magnificent scenery and was a little overwhelmed with astonishment.
At that moment, he was sitting in a wheelchair. The buildings below were familiar, and he soon realized where he was. This was the top of the mountain where the villa was located. The developer had built a viewing pavilion here for people to admire the scenery.
He never expected Luo Xiyun to bring him to this place.
"The snowing has stopped." He became cheerful as he gazed at the scenery before him.
"It already stopped four days ago."
Luo Xiyun pushed him to the fence. "These days, the temperature has been rising. At noon yesterday, it was close to zero. I believe that it won't be long before the temperature rises above zero."
As she spoke, she went to his side, squatted down, and continued, "When the snow melts, I plan to drive north to find other survivors. I believe there must be some other people on earth who have escaped this disaster."
Chen Xu heard her say "I" instead of "us". As to whether she was deliberately stimulating him or it was for some other reason, he didn't care anymore.
He would be leaving soon.
In a few minutes, he would have already stayed in this dream for a whole 180 days. When the time came, this dream would end.
Perhaps because of all the sleep he had gotten over the past few days, his mind was exceptionally clear. Since he'd entered the dream, he had never felt so sure like he was now that all he had experienced over the past six months was all merely a dream.
Subsequently, he once again felt his eyelids becoming heavier. He was aware that the moment he closes his eyes would mark the end of the dream.
At this moment, a question arose in his heart, and he was eager to know the answer.
He turned around and asked, "Luo Xiyun, have you ever loved me?"
Luo Xiyun looked into his eyes and seemed to have realized something. She bit her lower lip and said, "No, I never loved you. Why should I love a man like you who is self-righteous, selfish, and only ever cares about himself?"
As she went on, her tears kept falling like pearls slipping off a thread.
Chen Xu's eyes were already completely shut as his neck frailly declined sideways.
With her hands trembling, she reached out to his carotid artery. After a moment, his face had already become pale.
"What's nice about you? You can't come up with any good words to coax me when I'm angry. You don't know how to be a gentleman when it comes to good food. You throw stuff all around. You get triggered easily… you… s-snore when you…s-sleep..."
As she went on and on, she leaned on Chen Xu's lap and had already lost her voice in sobs.
After a while, her crying gradually stopped. She stood up, pulled Chen Xu on the chair upright, positioned his face in front of hers with several straps, and strapped him firmly in front of her body.
She held onto the wheelchair with one hand and stood above the fence. Staring at the ordinary-looking face, she murmured, "How could you leave me alone? You haven't confessed to me, proposed to me, put a ring on me… and you still wish for me to fall in love with you. Pfff, you jerk."
Upon finishing, she closed her eyes, inclined forward, and plunged down the cliff.
