A Bright Future

The house was quiet, but my mind was racing. Today was another important step in making sure our family was fully protected, especially with everything going on. Shayla had barely slept last night, the tension from the 4th of July celebration still weighing on her. We needed more help, and today we'd be bringing in potential new security: two additional bodyguards. 

I grabbed a cup of coffee and looked out the kitchen window, watching the sunlight start to creep over the horizon. My thoughts wandered to the interviews we had lined up with Marcus and Lana, two candidates Mark had vetted. Mark had been our main security guy for a while now, and I trusted his judgment. He had worked tirelessly to keep us safe, but we both knew that with the trial looming and the media attention growing, one man couldn't do it all. The boys, Shayla, me—we needed a more structured team. Shayla came into the kitchen, rubbing her eyes and yawning slightly.
