Chapter 14. Her feelings

MELODY'S Point of View

I think my feelings for Seth were getting stronger.

Okay, when we started out dating things were cool, pretty much like any other relationship I've been in.

Back then if I run into handsome guys I could still react.

But now? Nope.

Elliott, Blade, Scar and Phoenix, Seth's cousins, were all topping six feet and boasted the lean but muscular build of a quarterback. All well proportioned with dark bangs and eyes ranging from jade green to cobalt.

Blade was a demon. Although they were popular for being super handsome, many girls could give their souls just to be hellbound to them as mates. But I didn't fancy them.

In fact, Scar was exactly my type. He was a hybrid actually, both a werewolf and a Shapeshifter. His features were clean-cut and his skin was stained a deep golden brown by the sun, testifying to the number of hours he spends outdoors.

But when they smiled at me there wasn't a single flutter or shiver. No clammy hands or weak knees. So why did Seth's smiles make me feel like I'm in a tub of quicksand?

I picked up my phone and lay down on my bed, I wanted to ask how Barbara was doing.

I went to visit her back when I was in Janelle City, but her house was locked up and she wasn't picking up her calls.

"My lady, it's Hillary."

I'd asked the red-haired maid for her name since she's the one that had been ordered to tend to me.

"Come in."

She stepped in, holding the edges of her skirt she bowed.

"Please come with me to the royal hangar My lady."

"A hangar?"

"You'll be visiting the kingdom of Capefrost along with the royal family."

Wow, this is what a real vacation should look like.

"Do I need to pack anything?"

"No, my lady."

***

No way!

A cable car ride from the castle grounds took us to the hangar a few miles off. Any member of the royal family passed the age of eighteen had their own private jet. Well, Asgard was the most prosperous continent among the other ten anyway. But we were using a large plane that could fit all of us. We were about thirty-nine all together. Seth's got a large family.

I was happy that Seth let me sit by the window, I love staring at the clouds and the view of people looking like ants.

We were served a lot of things, there was a variety to choose from but I had pizza and wings, a glass of lemonade to wash it down too.

The same for Seth. The lemonade was in a huge tumbler with two straws, I caught a glimpse of Seth's mother tossing him a saucy wink.

I was certain that we were only a few minutes away from Capefrost's chilly weather. It was winter but Capefrost was worse, mostly werehumans associated with water and ice lived there.

We are all werehumans, different creatures all concluding human appearances as a general layout. So, are we all shifters? No, we're not. Shifters can take the shape of both humans and any other creature on the face of the planet, just in appearances, not their powers too. Only celestials can shift along with power changes. But we werehumans can only assume human conformations apart from our original form.

I shivered. Seth removed his jacket and draped it around my sweater.

"Aren't you gonna get cold?"

He shrugged.

"I'm a vampire, remember. I can handle lower temperatures a lot more than you can."

I think I fell asleep on his shoulder afterwards.

At Capefrost we said goodbye to the Queen's relatives.

***

The limo dropped us off at an ice rink? Are we going skiing or ice skating?

"Can you speak french, babe?"

I looked at Seth with an arched eyebrow, like where did that question even come from? Oh wait a minute, Capefrost's general language is french.

"I can but just at an intermediate level."

He seemed impressed with my response.

"Does it snow all year round here?"

"No, it doesn't. There are at least seven-eight weeks each for the other seasons, then winter is full-on for six months."

I looked around, there were a variety of ice trees, the rest were magical trees that could withstand eternal winter.

"Nous n'avons pas de tela oranges chez nous".

(We don't see such storms back home)

"Nice one. You know I was pretty worried earlier, I kept wondering how you'll communicate with the maids and people here but I don't have to worry anymore."

He led me into the back room of the building, there were over a thousand skates there. Ranging from different designs to colors to sizes. Is this stuff compulsory? I don't remember the last time I skated. I think Seth noticed my reluctance as I picked up a red pair and dropped them back on the rack.

"If you can't skate, then don't worry I'll teach you."

"No, it's not that. I'm just rusty, I think the last time I skated was back in middle school."

I admitted to him, awkwardly rubbing the back of my head.

"It's okay if you don't want to, I just thought it'd be fun."

Seth focused on choosing a skate that'll match his shirt.

I reached for the skates I'd dropped earlier, he helped me put them on before cupping my face in his hands.

"Don't worry just hold on to me once we start, you can let go once you get the hang of it, okay?"

I nodded. But I got on the ice on my own anyways.

It was a pretty good start. I wasn't shaking. This might end up better than I thought. Slowly stirring around, I caught a glimpse of Her Majesty—Whoa! She looked like a real pro on the ice.

She glided gracefully in salchows before propelling herself for an Axel Paulsen jump and she pulled it off impeccably.

Wow.

She motivated me in a way. I tried to be as careful as possible, assuming the nimbleness of a professional tightrope walker. Successfully halfway across the rink, the blades shifted underneath my left foot, Seth heard me gasp and his gaze snapped back towards me.

He reached for me, I clung to his arms and the warmth of his touch shot up my arm like a current of electricity. I sucked in a breath and felt my knees go weak. This is bad. I let go and fell over.

Ouch! I think I bruised my foot or something. Seth scurried over to me.

"Are you hurt?"

I would have given him an answer if I didn't hear His Majesty yelling at the top of his voice.

"Guards! Call a medallion immediately, Josie's fainted."

***

The medallion soon arrived. He should be as tall as Seth's father, a six foot five maybe?

"What happened?"

His voice was calm yet demanding, I was even more surprised he wasn't speaking french. I touched my left leg.

"ça fait mal."

(it hurts)

I think he was surprised I replied in french, he put on his clinical gloves and pressed lightly against the kneecap, I didn't grimace or quaint.

"Où est-ce que tu as mal?"

(Where does it hurt?)

I pointed to my foot, he slightly raised my jeans.

Ooh- that was quite a bruise.

"You've got an epidermal abrasion, a simple antibacterial spray should do the trick."

He went to his first aid kit and took out a can of it.

"Mademoiselle, are you allergic to bacitracin?"

"No, not at all."

At least I think I wasn't, how am I supposed to know what that big word means? But the last time I checked, I didn't have any allergies. He sprayed it and bowed to Seth before stepping out of the room. Seth took a seat facing me.

"How's your Mom doing?"

His shoulders were tensed up. I settled my hand over his, linking them together.

"The medallion's still running tests but so far they said she had a sudden drop in blood pressure because too little blood was being pumped into her brain at that time."

He looked down, uneasiness embedded into his facial expressions.

PROSE MODE

Seth was finally allowed in. His Dad was beside his Mom, holding her hand. She hadn't woken up yet.

"How's Mom doing?"

"She'll be fine, she'll wake up soon."

Seth looked at Josie. She wasn't pale and she wasn't feverish either. She'd been skating all full of energy earlier, so what happened exactly? Josie slowly opened her eyes, and Killian helped her sit up.

"Seth, go get the medallion."

***

"Your majesty, are you hypoglycemic?"

The medallion handed the test results to Killian.

"No, I'm not."

"Are you an immortal, your majesty? It's possible you had an anemic history although you recovered completely, it's possible the cells aren't completely convalescent yet."

"Back on earth, I had leukemia when I was little that's all".

The medallion turned and discussed with his female companion for a while before noting something down on his clipboard.

"Have you been feeling nausea or having morning sickness, your majesty?"

The female medallion asked this time around.

"A little bit."

"Do you get easily tired, any recent cases of vomiting?"

Josie nodded.

"Your majesty, Are you pregnant?"

Seth turned to look at his Dad. Killian turned to look at Josie hesitantly.

"I'm not sure."

"Clear the room, please."
