The "ding" sound from the clock woke me up, but this time it was accompanied by a knock on the door. I jumped up from the bed, as I flubbed for my phone. 'Shit...' I said in a husk tone, when I remembered that I left it in the lab. The knock persisted as I ran down the stairs to find out who was knocking, when I saw Girra in the kitchen.
'Good morning hun, sorry my hands are full, can you get the door?' 'It's okay' I said, blowing her a kiss from where I stood, as she responded with a grin. I opened the door to see a familiar chilly smile, it was Savy. He stood with two armed police men. 'Hate to tell you this, but you're under arrest' he said as he showed me a warrant, removing his handcuffs from his holster. 'Anything you do or_' he stopped for a moment, when Girra came out from the house. 'Woooah woooah wooah.....' he gave a wide grin for a moment and continued. 'Is this a reunion or something...? nice to see you Girra'. Girra scowled, looking at both of us in confusion. 'Willy what's happening?' she glared at both of us. 'What's going on here, what are you doing here and why are you with the handcuffs, who are these men, what is_?' Girra said, panicking and looking surprised.
'Woooahh.. woah..take it easy cupcake!! so I won't even get a hello from you?' he jeered at Girra, with a leer. 'One question at a time' he said, still with his wide grin. At this point I felt like punching him on the face. He came to arrest me and was flirting with my wife at the same time. 'You came here for me right? take me and leave her out of this and don't you dare call her cupcake again. She's my wife now' I said, giving him an intense look. As much as I tried to cover it, I knew why I was being arrested and surrendering was the best thing to do. Girra wasn't in the know of the recent happenings and I didn't want to risk it. The problem at hand was looking for a way to negotiate with Savy, I had to talk to him before we reached the station and I had to do it fast.
'Okay!! as I was saying, take it easy, your husband here has some questions to answer back at the station and he has to come with us. If you wish you could come to the station for more info.' Savy said, still piercing his gaze at Girra.
'What's happening Willy? tell me what's going on?' Girra said desperately, but suddenly got Interrupted by Molly and Solly. 'Daddy! daddy!' they yelled, running to give me a hug. Even though they were too little to understand what was happening, they definitely knew something was wrong. 'I'll be back, I just have some questions to answer okay!' Savy gave a wide grin, turning his head to one side. 'This is getting interesting...and here comes the offsprings' he said roguishly. 'Go in kids!! I'll be back soon' I said, nudging them to go in. 'Take care of the kids, I'll explain at the station.' I said to Girra, who looked crestfallen. 'Okay.... that's enough for now'
Savy said, putting the handcuffs on me. 'Savy we have to talk' I whispered to Savy, as we moved to the car.
'Please call Balley! tell him what happened' I yelled, looking back at Girra as the police lowered my head into the car. Yes!! Savy has been a pain in the neck right from college, but at this point, I needed his help and I needed it fast. He peeked at me from the rear view mirror, with an unsteady glare, as the policeman drove. I knew immediately that he got my message and wanted us to talk privately. I laid back on the seat for a while and no idea seemed to be coming into my mind, when immediately a thought lit up.
'Hey...hey stop the car, I said stop!!' I yelled, with my hands on my tummy, hitting the door. 'What's the issue with this guy?' The policeman that sat behind with me said with a cold look, putting his hand on his gun defensively, as Savy cut in. 'He needs to take a piss, drop him here and don't worry, I'll take care of it' he said, looking back at the police officer behind. 'You sure he wants to take a piss? He looks as if he's in pain or something.' the policeman chimed in. 'Don't worry Harry! I'll take care of this'
Savy came out of the car with his usual chill look. 'Co'mon!!' he said as he flung open the door, taking me out, with his hands on my back and leading me away from the car, as he whispered in my ears. 'Drama queen... you could have just said you needed to take a piss or something!!' He said, removing the handcuffs and yanking me forward a little. 'What the heck are you trying to tell me' Savy said quietly, when we had gone further away from sight, as I turned my back against the car, with Savy pacing to and fro behind where I stood. 'It's about Freeda and the GECA project' I said in a much louder tone. 'shhhhh.... com'on bring your voice down, you don't want them to know what's going on here. 'So what about the GECA project?' he said, looking at me more intensely and at the same time, making glances at the police car parked some distance away from us, as he kept on pacing. 'If Girra knows that this project has been going on without her knowledge, I'm dead meat. When she comes to the station please don't let her know.'
'And.....how am I supposed to do that?' 'I don't know......make up anything, bring up something else..!' I whisper yelled. 'I said bring down your voice, or else were done here' Savy said, looking peeved. 'Okay... what's in it for me' he said, as he slowed down on his pacing. 'What do you think?' I asked, turning back to face him for some seconds. 'Com'on Willy you can't just stand there, fiddle with your belt or something. You don't want them coming here' I knew he was trying to keep it low, but it started to get on my nerves.
'Okay, you'll just have to take that piss Willy!! I think these guys are watching' he said, trying as much as possible not to look in that direction, then continued. 'Okay, let's just wrap it up, you need my silence, I need $1000, nothing less' he said, with a condescending tone, as I scowled for a bit. 'O...okay. Done. I just hope you keep to your promises.' I said, buckling my belt, now turning to face him. It felt somewhat out of place making this deal, you could never trust a cop you know! let alone a detective. I could just tell Girra about it and get it over with, but I thought this was the best move I could take at this time.
There was silence the rest of the way, except for Savy that made some comments about how unusual it was for a city to be so peaceful. After a few hours drive, we arrived at the station and I was taken to what looked like an interrogation room. It had a table and two chairs across each other, with a piece of glass_work, an observation window of some sort, just like in the movies, where people stood behind it. I sat there waiting for what would come next, as my thought wandered to Harley and his mom.
'Dr. Williams Vladimir...' Savy said, as he entered into the room with some documents in his hand. 'Okay, so I am detaining you for being the prime suspect of the death of Harley Robinson and Nina Robinson' He said, opening the documents, with pictures of their dead bodies laying on the coal tar and a picture of what looked like finger prints. Raising his head up to a glance at me, he continued. 'It is my duty to inform you that you have the right to retain and instruct counsel in private, without delay' He stood up and paced around for a bit, as I kept a steady gaze at him. At this point, I was confused. The only thing I knew I was guilty of was turning a rat into a monster, apart from that, they had nothing on me. It was sad though, seeing that Harley and his mom were dead, I couldn't just place the mystery. 'You may call any lawyer you want, there is a 24 hour telephone service available_' 'Just cut to the chase already....' I cut in, feeling already doleful with everything that was happening. 'Okay..... so we found your finger prints on the door and on the windows of the Robinson's house, then also a call to the police, telling them that there's something strange going on at the Robinson's' He stood near the table, placing his hands on it, then spoke up when he didn't get answers from me.
'Harley Robinson and his mom were found in a very weird condition, in fact they looked like they had been through some kind of....hmm.. I don't know' He said, shaking his head for a while, as if he was trying to shake off a thought and then continued. 'So.... where were you after you called... tell me why you didn't wait for the police' Savy sat down, looking straight at me. ' I need my lawyer' I stared at him, still unshaken by everything he said.' 'O..... so you're becoming a hard nut to crack right? Okay then.' he said, as he left the room.
If I shut Savy's mouth with a thousand dollars, then he could do anything for money. It was obvious he was a corrupt detective and this all just looked like a sham, I thought, sitting in the now silent room. After many hours of a lot of questioning, with my lawyer there to defend me, I was out of custody and ready to go home. I came out of the interrogation room and my first glance at the passage way was Balley seated on a bench and Savy talking to Girra. My heart skipped a beat, as I wondered what they talked about. Savy coming to our lives again was just so difficult to handle, it seemed like a bad omen or something.
'Hey there' I said, at close range. 'Hey hun' Girra now looking sombre, walked up to me, pulling me into a warm embrace, as Balley stood up from where he sat. 'Okay... I think I should get going, it looks like it's family time' Savy said, looking me in the eyes, then continued. 'So we're done with you for now, we'll get back to you soon...if there's need to' he said, making glances at each of us.
'Bye Girra..' he walked off with a smirk. 'You okay?' Balley asked. 'Yea, I'm fine..' 'And who's that?' Balley scowled. 'It's some nightmare from the past. But don't worry about him.' I said, avoiding eye contact with Girra, when I noticed she was staring at me.
'Willy!!' she said, hitting me on the chest.
'What? Just saying... com'on let's get out of here.' I needed to get some fresh air, I had spent all of my day indoors and needed to clear my head a bit. Savy coming to our lives at this time was not the best of things for me.
