I am finally 1 year old.
In my last life—according to witnesses that is, I started crawling around my 8th month and started taking my steps around 9 month.
But this time, maybe because I am consciously attempting, I break that records and was able to move freely before my 8th month.
Going onto the next topic, because the language the parents and maid used is tonal languages, it was pretty difficult to make sense to it.
Most of it due to the fact that until I was on my 4th month, my underdeveloped ear could hardly listen to their conversations properly.
But perhaps, because the man who birth me often reads a book for me, I now can understand most of the casual communication.
On that note, he must be pretty dumb. Considering how old I am, it should have been natural for me to cry and threw myself around, or maybe he did because he judged that I would not?
In any case, I hope his gene in terms of talents are not passed down to me.
Anyway, right now I just finish reading one of the epic of this world, one of the only book this house have.
Well, even in the high middle ages, it was rarely common for a peasant household to have any books, so I should be thankful we are at least in a high enough standing to have one.
It was a pretty terrifying prospect now that I consider, I could have been a low born commoner, in which case I would most likely not have been privilege enough to learn magic.
Going back to the literature part, it was pretty interesting, the writing aspacts was slightly lacking, but the world building and characters are good enough to carry it I suppose.
Initially it was difficult to understand, but after one week of continuous rereading, I understands most of it now.
This was not something new to me of course, even in my previous life, because I wanted to understand Hindi, I watch Doraemon Hindi dub, watching a show I was already familiar with, but in different language.
And it takes approximately 4 month until I could speak pretty fluently, like that I also study other language like Spanish, Latin, Russian, Mandarin, English and other language that had my interest.
From those experience, I have already realised that speaking and understanding is simpler than writing and reading, this is the reason why, this time around I wanted to be able to read it fluently before speaking it.
What I now understands, however is that, this body is pretty inferior to the old one when comparing the both of them in terms of memorization capability.
It was extremely frustrating to reread a few lines over and over just to memorize it.
Anyway, I suppose I should be thankful, judging from the father, it could have been much worse.
I should start reading the magic textbook, now that my reading speed has improved, after thinking that, I decided to dive right through.
___________
I imagine this was what Alice must have felt when she fell to the hole as she was chasing the rabbit.
It felt like the reality I had lived for around 16 years had been rejected to its core.
So, summarising the introduction part of the book;
First, magic came in three types: Attack magic, Healing magic and Summoning magic.
According to the book, magic was
something birthed and developed in battle, and therefore not used much
outside of combat or hunting.
What kind of Barbaric world is this?
I can list almost 100 different things in this one instance that magic could accomplish, outside of battle.
If only had it been used for something other than battle, I reckon the world would have been a lot more developed.
Going onto the next, it also says you needed magical power in order to use magic.
There are two ways of using magic: using one's innate magical power or drawing
on the magical power imbued in an object.
Third, there were two ways of performing magic: incantation and
magic circles.
Either case seems like such a drag
The book also states that, in modern times, incantations were far more commonplace.
In older times, even the shortest magical incantations took one or two minutes—not exactly something you could use in the heat of battle.
But once you'd inscribed magic circle, you could use it over and over again.
Incantations started becoming the norm when one magician succeeded at greatly shortening them.
The simplest such incantations were reduced to around five seconds, and consequently became the only way people utilized Attack magic.
For the more complex rituals involved in Summoning magic, where greater efficiency wasn't attainable, magic circles remained the primary means.
Four, the amount of magical power someone had was pretty much determined at birth.
False.
"Anyway Fuck!" I uttered in English.
It was becoming boring to read it myself, I would either let the mother or father read the rest for me.
