'For some reason, I feel kinda nervous.' Draco thought, following Alice from behind. 'What if my teammates are going to be complete morons, then will I die in my first dungeon dive?'
Thankfully, the sight of Alice's slender back made him feel less nervous, so he just followed quietly from behind. Unsurprisingly, their meeting spot was the same as the training room that they have been using lately. Alice opened the door to the facility, and Draco took a deep breath.
What he saw immediately upon entering were four different people. Two men and two women, with all of them looking relatively young. Actually, they didn't seem any older than Draco himself, which wasn't a surprise, since it's rare for older people to be new awakeners.
However, before Alice or the awakeners could say anything to each other, a woman appeared in front of Alice, striking her with a high kick. Naturally, Alice blocked the attack with her wrist easily, but another kick moved towards her chin almost at the same time.
"Enough, Sophia," Alice said, her voice stern. As she said those words, Alice disappeared from the spot, getting behind the aggressor and forcing her to trip over her leg. The training room settled, as Sophia fell onto her butt, and Draco finally got the opportunity to see her appearance.
Despite being quite small, Sophia was a woman of formidable muscles and a well-rounded build. She had silver hair that extended until her breasts while also covering one of her eyes. Her face was blessed with clear skin, blue eyes, and a little nose.
She wore a tight tank top that revealed her belly, which matched well with her uptight shorts. Her boobs were... well, not there? But that didn't change the fact that she looked extremely beautiful, and her nipples being visible only added to this fact.
"Sorry, couldn't help it," Sophia answered, licking her lips. As Draco stared at Sophia, she turned towards him, looking him straight in the eyes. Her eyes moved up and down, scanning him. "So, is this the new guy? He looks weak."
Captain Alice didn't answer, instead glancing at Draco, as if wishing to see how he would deal with this situation. Sighing, Draco scratched the back of his head, putting on a carefree smile. "I am weak. I hope to be in your-"
Before he could finish his words, Draco saw a foot appear in front of him Thankfully, it stopped just a few millimeters from his left eye, or else he would really be injured quite badly. The fact that Draco didn't even flinch was quite surprising though, as most people would act on instinct and at least close their eyes.
"You are quite an interesting one, no?" Sophia said with a cunning smile on her face. She glanced ahead to see Draco's outstretched hand being just a few millimeters from clashing with her thigh.
As they stood at this standstill for a few moments, Draco suddenly coughed and shooked his head. "I would suggest putting that leg down since I can see your panties with full clarity."
All the noise quieted down and an awkward silence descended upon the training grounds. Then, Sophia's face suddenly got red as she slowly put her leg down. "You...you!"
Sophia clearly wasn't finished, but it seemed that Alice had enough. "Awakener Sophia, I kindly ask you to go back to your teammates." Whatever that was, Draco clearly felt that it was not meant to be kind.
Clicking her tongue and hatefully staring at Draco, she returned to the three other teenagers, as Alice started introducing them one by one. At first, Alice pointed at the buzz-cut man, who stood at the height of 6.3 feet tall.
He excluded an aura of a soldier and a gentleman, so his sharp eyebrows and dark eyes only added this impression. When Alice pointed at him, he stepped forward and stretched out his hand towards Draco.
"Noah, a 19-year male, grew up in the slums of the Southern city, where he recently awakened and was scouted for the army. His ability is called Hardening, which allows him to make his skin practically impenetrable." Alice said without catching a breath, and Draco shook the man's hand, noting how sturdy it felt.
'Slums...I have been there once.' Draco thought, remembering that one time uncle decided him to show the bad side of the world. Slums could be described in one word; chaos, for police and awakeners couldn't stretch their power that wide and regulate everything. Slums were a place for criminals and orphans, or those running away from military service.
As Noah stepped back, Alice pointed at Sophia. "This is Sophia, 19 years old, Noah's older sister, who has also grown up in the slums. She is a bit of a battle maniac, so she can be a bit troublesome. Her ability enables her to partially turn into a werewolf, boosting her capabilities accordingly."
Sophia glanced at Draco with clear hatred, as she knocked her knuckles one against the other, fire in her eyes. It almost seemed like she would jump forward and beat the shit out of him on the spot, but Draco simply smiled and waved with his left hand.
'Their abilities are quite interesting.' Draco noted them down, then turned to the second man of the team, scanning his appearance. The man...looked quite simple in comparison to other people. He wore a simple black jacket, which was loosened up at the top, revealing some of his skin.
He had curly dark hair and hazel eyes. What amazed Draco the most was that the man was very thin. While Draco actually worked out but just had little mass, this man looked like he never did a push-up.
"This is Casper, 21 years old, third in command of the strategy department of the Southern army. Actually, he is someone from Central City. By a stroke of luck, he had awakened a few weeks ago and was asked to help out with the dungeon. Casper can use shadows to restrain the opponent's movements and force them to mimic his own."
Casper yawned and waved at the same, while Draco contemplated the information. Becoming such a well-respected strategist was actually no easy feat, and it was actually quite hard to believe that such a carefree-looking man held such a position. His ability seemed quite powerful as well.
'Central City...that's the first time I am seeing someone from there.' Draco thought. Initially, he thought everyone who lived there was rich and powerful, but looking at this simple man, he would probably have to reconsider his opinion.
"Finally." Alice pointed at the last awakener, which was a woman who Draco had been giving sneaky stares all this time. She was incredibly beautiful, with long yellow, soft hair and an innocent-looking face. She had green eyes and just excluded an energy of pureness. "Joy, 18 years old. Lived her entire life in a Southern city, where she awakened. Her ability enables her to heal others, which is something extremely precious during times of war. In fact, she wouldn't be sent into this dungeon, unless we were in a moment of crisis, and instead would be nurtured by higher powers."
Joy smiled brightly, and Draco thought his eyes got blinded for a few seconds. "It's nice to meet you. I hope we get along in the future!" She said, her hands together.
"Likewise." Draco returned the smile.
"Alright, now." Alice gestured towards Draco. "This is Draco, and he will your teammate in the upcoming dungeon dive. He is a former cadet and had awakened only three days ago, so show him some tips. Get along well."
There was a moment of silence when everyone waited for Alice to continue, but she didn't. Hence, Sophia stepped forward and asked. "So what is this wimps power?"
For the first time ever, Draco saw a grin appear on Alice's face. "Now, you will have to find out for yourself. What's a better way to get closer than an all-out brawl?"
As everyone understood what Alice was planning, Casper was the first one to interrupt her voice. "I pass. Sore muscles today."
"Didn't you have sore muscles yesterday?" Noah, who was standing beside him, asked with a confused expression. Seemed like this man didn't really understand sarcasm.
"Yeah, It's probably because I have been straining my body so much lately." Casper continued his bravado, while Joy walked over and attempted to heal the man, to which he refused and walked to the corner.
"I will also pass! Sorry, guys, I don't know how to fight." Joy said and joined Casper, trying to engage in a conversation, but the man clearly wasn't interested.
Alice didn't object to either of them, and Draco entertained the idea of passing himself but understood that wasn't an option. After all, his teammates had to understand his powers and ability to fight to start forming strategies for later.
"If it is not an issue, I would also like to pass. I have been beaten enough times by my sister." Noah said and, after receiving an approving nod from Alice, he joined the duo.
Sophia was the only one left standing, and she was clearly overjoyed.
Hatred burned in her eyes from Draco's prior joke.
"So, it is a duel then." Alice stepped forward, standing in between them. "Don't worry, Draco, you will see those three in action later. Today, it is mainly your stage."
"Alright, miss." Draco sighed in exasperation, staring at Sophia, who started jogging on the spot as a warmup. She was smiling and laughing to herself like she was about to commit a crime. "Would it be possible to get a weapon?"
