AVA'S POV:
Through out the weekend, Yan didn't show up, nor did he send me a message. Though I felt disappointed, I appreciated the fact that he had chosen to leave.
After dropping the kids off at work, I drove to EN and walked in when I spotted Sisa having a conversation with Kim. I got curious and approached them.
"Good morning to the most beautiful boss in the world," I said, and Sisa rolled her eyes.
"Yet you tend to make me a strict boss," she snorted before she added.
"Congratulations! Your article made it to the top of the week, and we didn't get sued; in fact, we got more deals," she said in a proud tone. I chuckled and turned to Kim.
"Did you get that? My article made it to the top," I mocked, and Kim rolled her eyes.
"You probably sold your body to Yan Earlton to make him not sue the company despite all the nonsense you wrote about him," Kim snorted, and I frowned. I didn't sell my body to anyone.
"Do you also wish to sell your body to me?" A voice echoed from behind us, and we all turned to find Yan and his secretary, Keren.
Kim had a shocked look, as she never expected him to be here and even overhear her conversation.
"I am sorry, but I don't have much change, so I can't afford to pay you."
He insulted her before he walked past us and headed for Sisa's office with Keren. Sisa joined them, and I got nervous.
What was he doing here? Hope it wasn't to cause trouble, "Ava." Sisa stood by the door and called.
"Get coffee for our guest," she added, and I nodded and hurried to make one. I already knew how he loved his coffee, so there was no need to go back to ask.
But why should I make it perfect? I added more sugar to it before I walked to Sisa's office and pushed the door open. I was shocked to see Yan on Sisa's chair while Keren was so close to him; she was busy arranging his tie.
"He can't even arrange his own tie," I snorted, and I couldn't find Sisa in the office, so I placed the coffee close to Yan. noticing my presence, Kim walked out of the office.
"What the fuck are you doing here?" I scolded him at once; this might be the only minute I have to scold him.
He smiled at me. "To make you president of EN," he answered, and I stared at him in disbelief. Had he lost it?
"You don't…"
"Ava," Sisa called as she joined us in the office. I had to swallow back my words and fake a smile.
"Did you get the coffee?" Sisa asked before she placed some documents before Yan.
"Yes." I nodded and turned to leave when Yan's voice stopped me.
"Come back"
Sisa was present, and I couldn't disrespect him, so I turned and walked back towards him. "What's your name?" he questioned.
Did he not know my name? He didn't know my name?
Be calm, Ava. I filled my lungs with enough air before I breathed out heavily, trying hard not to lose it, "Ava Woods."
"Woods? Are you sure that's your last name?" He had a teasing look; did he expect me to say Earlton?
"Yes sir"
"I want her," Yan said to Sisa, and I was confused. What did he mean by he wants me?
"Ava, Mr. Earlton wants our company to write a magazine about him, so we need a writer who will do several interviews on him and write the magazine. You are lucky he got to choose you," Sisa explained, and I turned to stare at Yan, who nodded.
Lucky? It's true that writing a magazine about him will raise my chance for a promotion, but I didn't want that. Writing a magazine meant I would have to meet with him a lot of times, and I didn't want that.
"I am not interested, Sisa," I blurted, and Sisa's eyes widened in shock. Yan stood up and stood before me.
"Then I will just go to a different company; suit yourself," he said as he walked to the door when Sisa hurried and blocked his path.
"Mr. Earlton, don't misunderstand her... She is just in a shocked state. Of course she will do it. Thanks for this opportunity."
"Sisa i.."
"Shut it, Ava," she said between her teeth, and I clenched my fist. Yan was so irritating.
He pointed at the coffee. "And I know a good coffee when I see one," he winked and left. How did he know the coffee wasn't good?
Sisa walked towards me angrily. "Have you lost it? Do you know what this opportunity means to the company and especially for you?" She scolded, and I looked away.
I know it was a big deal, but I just didn't want to be the one doing it. "You were my intern student, Ava; I even let you intern with your kids running down the lodge, and remember I told you that one day you will pay me back?"
I nodded. How could I forget how kind she was about the fact that I brought the kids during my internship? She took care of them and never complained about their noise.
"Fine, I will do it."
Sisa smiled at me, "Good, now carry that coffee and get out of my office."
I took the coffee back to the mini kitchen; I was in deep thought when my phone rang. It was from an unknown number; who was it?
"Yes?" I said once the call got connected.
"Mother," I heard Lily cry out, and the phone almost slipped out of my hands. "Lily, where are you?"
"We have your kids; don't think of calling the cops and get the sum of 50,000 USD ready. I will call you back ," a man said before the call got disconnected at once.
My lips shivered as I became all sweaty. I felt the air surrounding me closing up. What happened to my babies? And 50,000 USD? Were they crazy? Was this a prank call or what?
