Episode 21

Mavis stepped forward and looked at Vere. Vere could feel his heart racing as he began walking towards her. Mavis' frowned and ran towards Vere embracing him and kissing him. Martin stared along with Jayden and the others. "I'm sorry..." Vere said, "I promised you I'd keep him safe..." Mavis shook her head, "He was going to follow you no matter what I told him...I'm so relieved your safe though....when I got the report that we lost someone my heart sank..." She said. Vere frowned, "He told me to tell you he was sorry..." Mavis nodded, "He fought to ensure everyone's safety and to take down Oracle...he has nothing to be sorry for..." Everyone stared in shock as Jayden coughed, "Not trying to ruin the moment...but just curious...what the hell did we just witness?" He asked. Mavis and Vere blushed, "We've...been dating each other for over three years..." Vere replied, "Devin was her brother and when we met things just kicked off....but we've been dating in secret due to her families position in Thorn.." Jayden's eyes widened, "I heard about Devin...and I'm sorry for your loss," he said. Mavis nodded, "Thank you...I will prepare arrangements for his funeral upon returning," she said. "So...Devin was royalty?" Mikiu asked. Mavis nodded, "Correct but due to my age I was given the position of power over Thorn," she replied, " Devin would have received the role once he turned 18." Mikiu stared, "Ya known I'm curious....what is your last name?" She asked. "Dominique," Mavis replied, "Why?" Mikiu and Martin's eyes widened, "Are you by chance a descendant of Daigo Dominique?" Martin asked. Mavis nodded, "That's correct," she replied. Mikiu stared, "That...explains a lot...." She said, "Your ancestor was a pain in the ass..." Mavis looked confused but turned to Vere. "We will be leaving shortly..." Mavis said. Vere nodded, "We'll be right behind you.." He said. The helicopters roared into life as everyone boarded. "What of Captain Briggs?" Mavis asked. "He is MIA mam..." One of the Sentinels replied, "We believe he may have gone down when the facility exploded..." Mavis looked at the burning remains of the Oracle facility, "That's a shame..his family was waiting on his return..." She replied. Jayden sat next to Yuki and rested his head on her shoulder, "It's finally over..." He said. Yuki smiled and kissed him, "I hope so," she said. The helicopters lifted into the air and flew off into the early sunrise. Below on a small vessel Nexis stood watching the helicopters fly away. "Sir...what now?" Asked one of the Oracle operatives. Nexis smiled, "They won for now...but I'll have my revenge...some day," he replied. The next few months past and everyone began to get settled into their new lives. Vere had moved in with Mavis, Yuki had moved in with Jayden and Mikiu, and Devin was laid to rest. The wind blew as Vere gazed over Devin's grave stone. "Thought I'd find you here..." Jayden said as he walked up the gravel path. Vere smiled, "It's weird not having him around...we have been best friends for years and now he's gone," he said. Jayden put his hand on Vere's shoulder, "How are things going?" He asked. Vere took a deep breath, "Mavis is good, she told her parents about us and they approved of our relationship, though I don't see her too much since she is constantly on diplomatic trips, so for now I'm attending the Ortega Academy," he replied. Jayden laughed, "School?" He asked. Vere nodded, "I know right? Mavis told me that I would make a great teacher now that Elementals can now come out of hiding and begin living in society again without fear of Oracle, she feels I can teach them how to use their abilities too better society again." Jayden smiled, "Over the course of two years a lot has happened....I could see you becoming a teacher...you helped me when we first met," he said. Vere laughed "Yeah you were hopeless, but now your a good friend and have come a long way..." He replied, "So how are things with you?" Jayden sighed, "Good, Yuki and I are doing well, Mikiu and Martin have rekindled their relationship ever since that operation and I am looking into a few things myself," he replied. "Nexis?" Vere asked. Jayden nodded, "There are things that I want to find out, and if he had any ties with my parent's deaths..." He replied. Vere looked back at Devin's gravestone and then to the sky. The sky was a deep blue with little clouds rolling by. "Do you think things are really over?" Vere asked. Jayden shrugged, "For now....I feel that things are where they need to be...but Nexis is still out there," he replied. Vere sighed, "You're right..." He said, "Nothing to now though except see what the future brings." Jayden smiled, "Yeah...but until that time comes...we will enjoy the peace that we now have."
