A Gift

Nathan went to talk to Selene after the whole scene earlier.

"Thanks for doing that," Nathan didn't know where to start so he just thanked her. He doesn't even know why he talked to her.

"I just did what I thought was right, you don't have to take heed of what I did," Selene said as she prepared his things for the next class.

Seeing that Selene wouldn't budge, Nathan dropped the matter and also prepared his things for the next class.

Warlock jumped from the back of Nathan and said, "What really happened to you, bro, Not only were you early, you even challenged Selene. Did my attempt to re-energize you actually worked?"

"What do you mean to challenge Selene? I just wanted to be a representative, that's all, there's no such thing as me challenging her" Nathan reasoned.

"If that was not challenging her, what do you explain? Anyway, do you even think that you can beat her? She's smart and has good grades." Warlock couldn't understand why Nathan was so confident against Selene.

"I'll never if I don't try, will I?"

"No offense but looking at your performance, aren't you being overconfident. I'm all for you changing for the better but I think this might affect you in a bad way," Warlock said dejectedly, losing his usual energetic response.

"Don't worry I got this under control, besides, nothing bad will happen if I do lose. I'm already at the bottom in everyone's opinion, what more will this do?" Nathan joked.

Seeing that Nathan was now able to joke around, Warlock thought that Nathan really has now changed and dropped the matter and proceeded to head to the next subject.

Only Nathan was left in the room.

Why? It seems that his system hasn't abandoned him yet.

He had received an Item earlier when the class ended. He was congratulated as his honor points increased for the first time.

"I didn't think I would get something like this, I thought I'll be able to use the system when I already did well in the competition." Nathan was keeping the grin off his face as he clicked the [Congratulations Packet].

This surprised Nathan as he didn't think this sort of item can be acquired through the system. Though considering the structure of the system being different than that of a video game, there's really nothing to be surprised about the benefit it gives.

It's the personification of delving to the unknown.

"Will the rewards continue to be like this?" Nathan asked, his purpose was to find meaning in his life, being spoon-fed like this wouldn't help him grow.

It was still a help from the system and he has no control with it until the shop is unlocked. He accepted the gift parcel and tons of information entered his mind.

Nathan was infamous due to his grades and seemingly lack of focus, but the reality was though Nathan appears like an idiot to the public, his knowledge was on par to top students even in other universities.

Topics and subjects seem so easy to understand for him and that's why he was able to study in secret every now and then, lacking true motivation he didn't study further.

He can say that in this university, his extensive knowledge is borderline as a second-year student.

Nathan doesn't know it yet but his knowledge of college mathematics is on par with a beginner of advanced mathematics on a world-level scale.

 After consolidating his new knowledge for a few seconds. He also went and caught up to the rest of the class which already went ahead to the assigned classroom.

He arrived just in time as the professor was about to start checking the attendance.

The students who still remember what happened earlier stared at Nathan for a few seconds before returning what they were doing. Selene, on one hand, was busy looking at her notes, paying no mind to the almost late Nathan.

Warlock signaled Nathan were to sit, the latter obliged hurriedly.

The class and the day continued like nothing ever happened, no situation like what happened with Professor Damian repeated the rest of the day. Nathan used the time to rest as he didn't think that being conscious of being to school is draining.

At home

After a long day, as soon as he got home, Nathan immediately went to his room and dropped down flat onto his bed, enjoying the sweet scent of sleep.

But before he could fully doze off, a voice called for him.

Nathan's shut eyes immediately opened with a frustrated look. He opened the door to check who was the one who disturbed his long-awaited rest.

Neo was the one who faced Nathan as the latter opened the door. Neo never saw Nathan's face with much emotion, even when Nathan was angry his face would still appear stoic. The only explanation Neo can think of was something happened with his brother that changed him, but seeing colors on Nathan's face, he didn't worry.

"What is it?" Nathan questioned with an annoyed tone.

"Can you cover for me? I'll be meeting with my friends and I need you to vouch for me." Neo pleaded.

Nathan changed his expression as he said, "Talk that with mom, I can't do that. You better not be involved in some kind of mess."

"That's why I'm asking you, I don't want to talk to mom, and what do you mean I'm up to something naughty, think that in your delusions and keep my real self out of that." Neo rebutted.

"Fine, forget it. I should've not pleaded with you with such a request, you really are stuck up." Neo said as turned around and left.

Nathan doesn't know if Neo would really talk to their mother about going out with friends, he texted his mother about the conversation they had before finally dozing off.
