Chapter 52: She’s Been Acting Weird

Lucas

I reckon a couple of days had passed since Mila had gotten sick to her stomach, and we’d all pondered the nuances of menudo, and I still hadn’t gotten things off my mind. It did not help that Mila herself had been strangely distant ever since.

Still, I tried to respect her privacy and keep my distance. Oliver and Ethan saw it too, I’m sure of it, but they didn’t say anything, either. The three of us knew better than to try and convince Mila of any damn thing she didn’t want in the first place. She would talk to us when she was ready. If she was ready. And then we would provide the support that she needed.

By mutual unspoken accord, Ethan, Oliver, and I kept our mouths shut and our eyes and ears open. If it looked like Mila needed us, we would be there. Until then, we just had to wait.
