Monstrous Ascension: Endless Monster Evolution

The entire solar system was destroyed before anyone could notice or even understand what had happened. A massive comet changed its course and ended up hitting the sun, causing a chain reaction that made our biggest star expand and then become a supernova. Five hundred seconds later, Earth started to get hotter, and in five seconds, all the life on the planet burned and died. That was supposed to be the end of the human race, but for some reason, all the humans began to reincarnate as monsters in another world. Those who wanted to struggle and live for a while longer could fight and evolve, even reincarnate in other forms if they tried hard... Kane was one of them, he wouldn’t let himself be hunted without reason, and he was determined to climb up the food chain of that new world that had many fantasy races and monsters, gods and demons, hunters and overlords.

After confirming that they could be attacked at any moment, two of his seven teammates walked forward and positioned themselves on Leia's sides. Although Kane was thankful for not hearing so many names since it would be hard to recognize someone just by hearing their names and voices, he was also quite troubled that no one wasn't explaining anything to him.

Regardless, Leia and those two men started to move forward, and the other five followed a few meters behind them. Despite the tension in the air, several minutes passed without anything happening. After walking for fifteen minutes in the same direction, Leia and the two others turned to the right side and continued to walk.

"It looks like they only explore and hunt in a certain area around the village. Well, walking in such an area is more than enough. We only have six hours to do that, after all."

By the look of things, fights against the bees and carnivorous' plants were relatively rare. Or, Leia's group didn't have the courage and the skill to venture so far away. In any case, considering that Kane lacked the experience in fighting against all those creatures, he was pretty much fine with that. Still, he didn't want to be laid back like the others.

Suddenly, while Kane thinking about that, a green, big-ass snake appeared out of nowhere and somehow managed to jump high enough to aim at the neck of the guy on Leia's right side. However, that man's body blurred, and the next moment, Kane saw his spear hitting the snake and tossing it behind him and in front of the group that was following a few meters behind.

The snake flew upward for two seconds, and that was more than enough for those behind those three to prepare themselves. Despite the fact that all of them had a single rustic knife, they didn't hesitate to attack the monster before it could even land.

Kane didn't expect that those guys would be able to kill the snake before the creature could react. However, even his teammates' rustic knives pierced deeply when they attacked the snake's flesh. Much to Kane's surprise, the snake died when a random girl attacked the snake's head. Kane frowned when he saw that knife's blade inside the creature's head.

"The hell… Wasn't that way too easy? I know that we have the numerical advantage, but even so..."

Kane had touched the bodies of the dead snakes in the village, and he felt how sturdy their whole body was despite their lightning-like speed. It wasn't sturdy as the golem's body. Still, it wasn't something that could be pierced that easily… in the end, Kane eventually noticed how those people could hunt.

"I see now… Leia and those two guys increased their speed to react in time for the surprise attacks of the snakes. Meanwhile, those who stay in the backline focused on increasing their strength. Considering their weapons, it is quite a weird formation; the reverse would be the obvious thing to do."

It was hard to know if they used their status like that because they were ordered or if it was because of some other reason. Kane was fully aware that it wasn't something sane to do to focus on a single stat; he did that because he didn't have any other choice. Magic was the only thing he could use to fight against those kids. Speed was the thing that he needed to escape and deal with the flying ability of the bats.

Still, Kane couldn't help but wonder how long those weapons would last. Considering their brute strength, their weapons were supposed to have broken a long time ago, but then Kane recalled that those weapons had been acquired thanks to the system. Maybe they had supernatural durability… despite the bonus status being incredibly pathetic.

"Something is off… wouldn't this type of weapon be terrific in the hands of the humans of this world?"

It was clear that the system was made for the monsters to fight, but things would become even more complicated if those weapons spread around the dominant race of that world. Kane only survived as a slime because he managed to break his enemies' weapons.

While his teammates were recovering their weapons that got stuck in the body of the snake, he approached to see the state of their weapons. As expected, their knives were covered in blood and fat from the snake's body, but he couldn't see any signs of damage in the weapons. No cracks and the blades weren't dulled. Those weapons really had supernatural durability... That was the only way that Kane could explain how the weapons were fine after many battles.

"Let's deliver the snake to the village," Leia declared.

Kane frowned, but he decided to stay quiet even though they barely started to hunt and still had a lot of time to work; carrying that snake around for almost five hours would be a massive pain in the ass. Besides, the last thing they needed was to tire themselves outside the battles.

While they were going back to the village, Kane confirmed once more that those people had no motivation to level up. Maybe it was because the difference in power was too big, and they couldn't face the monsters of that forest alone, but they took their sweet time walking back to the village. One could even notice that some people were asking for a break despite not having a single sign of sweat on their bodies.

"This is worse than I imagined…"

Things became clear for Kane really fast… After seeing what seemed to be like many humans reincarnated as monsters being slaughtered like insects, any sane person would be marked forever. Kane used that trauma as a means to fuel his will to live even further. Still, many others didn't feel like that… most of the people of that village didn't feel like struggling so much when they could relax in the village. Why take any chances when they could survive eating the bare minimum and when they have the perfect excuse to satisfy their lust?

Kane didn't know for long they could survive, just satisfy their basic needs, but he knew one thing, he couldn't wait for them. Even if it were dangerous, Kane would keep fighting until he finds a place, or he has the strength to sleep without worrying about being murdered while he sleeps. In any case, it looked like he wouldn't find that strength by joining that village. He only had one real option in that situation...
