Going south

Things suddenly became complicated, but at this point in time, Kane was already used to that. Instead of getting worried or impatient, he just moved away from the spider's nest and readied himself to fight. The last thing he needed was to be attacked from behind, so he only stopped when he saw the bats.

"Water Ball! Water Ball! Water Ball! Water Ball!"

In the blink of an eye, Kane fired four Water Balls. Despite the lack of time to concentrate, he still managed to hit the bats with three of them. Not only that, one was stunned, flying in circles, and the other was falling. Kane didn't lose that chance…

"Dash! Steel Claws! Bloody Bite!"

Kane attacked the monster before it could even land, and all his attacks landed on the monster's head, killing it instantly. Kane couldn't lose the momentum, so he aimed at the second bat and attacked using another Water Ball. A headshot… and the bat also started to fall. Once again, Kane used his full combo to finish off his enemy.

Although Kane was thankful for the notifications, he was too exhausted to celebrate… using too much energy wasn't something he should do in such a short time. Still, it wasn't like he had any other choice. However, before he could have the chance to relax, Kane turned around, hoping to find the spider about to attack him, but he saw nothing.

"Phew… this is just too much emotion for someone like me."

Regardless, Kane dragged the corpses of the bats to his hideout, and without wasting a single minute, he devoured them. It was quite unsettling that he could eat all that much and not feel his belly getting bigger, but it was one of the perks of being a monster.

Without wasting time, Kane made good of that extra energy and increased the size of his hideout. Eventually, it became ten meters deep, and thanks to it, he could disappear into the darkness of that place. Although the walls could emit some light for an unknown reason, the same thing didn't happen to his hideout.

"I worked quite a lot, but I don't feel all that tired… being an ant certainly is convenient when it comes to digging holes. In any case, I should allocate the status points I obtained."

So many things happened that Kane even forgot to distribute the points he obtained by leveling up. After opening his status screen, he confirmed once more that he had three options… Strength, Speed, and Constitution. So far, things were working out, but he was bound to find some powerful enemies. He wasn't a slime anymore, so he didn't have a single option… thanks to that, Kane had to be careful.

Although he wanted to experiment with his attributes a little, Kane couldn't do that either, even though he just wanted to see what attribute would increase his health and stamina. In theory, Strength would improve his physical attack power and health, and magic increases magic attack power and mana. So, most likely, Constitution would increase stamina… Kane knew what speed would do. It was obvious, really. The question was about Dexterity and Control.

"That will probably increase my consumption of stamina, but I guess increasing speed is the best option in a place like this. Besides, this body is weak, at least defensely speaking. I'm so tired of getting wounded every single time, so it should work."

"Health, mana, and stamina didn't increase, but it should be fine… as long as I'm fast enough, my claws will do the job."

Kane didn't know if speed would increase his reaction speed, but he was counting on that. Without wasting time, Kane did some tests, and he could feel the difference clearly… the wind against his body got more intense, and his consumption of stamina increased as well.

"Mmm… considering the encounters that already happened, I guess it is safe to assume that bats will appear every hour in groups of two or solo. Let's confirm if that is really true… it should be about time for the next battle."

In the end, ten minutes later, another bat appeared… Most likely, the dungeon was spawning those monsters, and there was a spawning point of bats somewhere nearby… Although it would be great to find such a place, Kane decided to see if one hour was enough to kill the spider.

After knocking down the bat and just like before killing it with his speed, Kane ate it. Then he headed toward the spider's nest only to see it devouring one of the snacks she had prepared beforehand.

"Why do I feel so nervous when things are going so well? I guess it is probably because things worked quite well so far..."

Kane wasn't a person who trusted too much in instinct and intuition when he was a human. There was no need for it, after all. But now, even though he didn't have such skill and he had the mind of a human. Something was telling him that things were about to go south.
