City permits

He could see the massive wall surrounding Ckiukuji town from the top of the mountain. It was far bigger than the first village, and he also spotted a long queue in front of the city full of multiple merchant wagons.

This town was the market hub of the east side of the Rown Kingdom, as there were two stone quarries near the city, along with multiple small iron mines. From afar, he also saw rows of leather tents around the city walls that reminded him of the slums. Just like slums, these tents were present next to this city.

As they moved closer, he realized that these leather tents were full of white beastmen. If he was not wrong, then they were foxians, the beastmen with the features of white foxes.

There were many other beastmen, but Foxians were in the majority. Most of them had cuffs around their necks, while a few without cuffs had big, visible tattoos on their bodies.

Their merchant group ignored the slave tents and joined the queue to enter the village.

One adventurer opened the carriage door he was in and said, "We have reached the destination. You guys need to empty the carriage."

Everyone in the carriage nodded their heads, and one by one, they walked out of the carriage. After getting out, the couple walked toward the gates along with their maid, while the old man and kid walked in the opposite direction toward the slave tents.

He stood there, not knowing what to do, as he saw multiple guards at the gate who were checking everyone. It looked like he needed some kind of permit to enter the city, which he did not have.

After some thought, he walked to the two old adventurers and asked, "Umm, good morning, sir." He bowed a little to show respect. It was an ingrained habit of his to always lower himself toward others.

The middle-aged adventurers stared at him, and one of them asked while squinting, "You are the same lad that wanted to fight, right?"

Like a little kid, Glitch nodded his head. "Yes, sir."

The other adventurer clicked his tongue and asked, "Didn't the leader refuse you?" He waved his hand. "Go away; don't disturb us." Both adventurers ignored him and started talking with each other.

Glitch stood there looking at the gate and asked in a low voice, "Sir, can you tell me how to enter the city?"

Both of them stopped talking and frowned at him, but at this moment, Glitch flashed the last silver coin in his hand. The moment they spotted the coin, their eyes widened.

Glitch smiled at their reaction and placed the coin back in his jacket. 'This method works everywhere.'

The adventurers glanced at one another, and then one of them asked in a low voice, "How do you want to go in? Through a permit or ..."

Even though that guy did not say it, he knew it was through the back door.

He thought for a moment. A permit should be good in the long run, but that depends. He asked, "What do I need to make a permit?"

"One of the town residents' approval."

He stared at them and asked, "How much?"

The first adventure showed him four fingers, "It depends on the kind of permit you want."

He squinted at this, as he did not even know there were different permits in the town. He scratched his chin and asked, "Can you brief me about them?"

The first guy nodded and started explaining, while the second one kept looking around.

"There are four permits for the city. First is the basic permit. It would allow you to travel around the outer section of the town, and you can enter and leave the city three times a month."

He rubbed his chin. "Wait, what if I went to go out a fourth time?"

"Then you have to pay a gate fee of a few copper coins every extra time you want to enter the city. The basic permit costs about 3–5 bronze coins."

He clicked his tongue, as he did not want to waste time standing in line to pay. "Nah, this is bad."

The adventurer nodded his head. "Well, then the second is the mid-permit. This will allow you to enter the middle region, which is full of markets with unlimited in-and-out. For this, you would need at least 50 bronze coins."

His eyes widened. "It's ten times the basic price."

The second guy explained, "For this permit, you need permission from someone who lives in the middle area. Most of those guys are wealthy and do not want to take risks."

He nodded in understanding. This mid-permit perfectly fits his requirements. Still, he asked them, "What about the other two permits?"

"Well, there is a high permit, but..." he shook his head. "You have to wait for a few days for these permits, and it will cost you a few silver coins. The high permit will give you entry to the inner city."

"What about the fourth permit?"

Both adventures shook their heads. "Core permits are impossible to get until you know someone from the city administration."

The second adventure placed his arms on his shoulders. "So, which one do you want?"

He felt the tension. It was clear that if he did not buy any permits, things might get bad between them.

He did not care about these warring and thought for a moment before saying, "Get me two completely different mid-permits."

Both of the adventurers stared at him for a moment and then nodded. One guy walked toward their leader while the other explained to him, "You will enter alongside us and will have to pay on the other side." This guy also flashed his sword as a warning.

Glitch sighed and nodded his head. He could not believe that he was spending so much just to enter a town. Well, it's not like he had many other options. It was either money or time.

He knew from his experience that there must be many ways to enter the town without spending money. But all of that would require time, and he did not want to waste time for now.

He just stood on the side of the carriage, looking around at the merchant carts coming from time to time.

Most of these wagons were full of enormous cages with lots of beastmen slaves.

It was only now that he realized that the first two wagons of their group were also carrying these beast slaves. He was not that surprised at the slavery.

It was common among most of the beginner planets, with wars and factions. He was sure that he would see human slaves in the beast kingdoms.

Many players even joined hands with these slaves and started a riot in the kingdom, but this method was only useful for those who wanted to start their village.

For him, doing that would be a waste of effort, as he knew that with no support, these guys would be slaves even if he sent them to some beast kingdom.

Now that he thought of slaves, he remembered the revolutionary organizations. Every place with slaves also had these people who wanted to flip the roles.

He was confident that these revolutionaries could spread through this region, given that the northern side of the planet was full of kingdom wars.

If he found them, things would get super interesting. These revolutionaries had little resources or information to offer, but they had skilled NPC talents.

If he could recruit a few of them, just thinking about that made him excited.
