Chapter 6

“I must speak to Margo,” she said. “I do hope she has a recipe that will convince them to stay for dinner. Something with a traditional flare, but not a second-rate imitation…”

“We’re quite fortunate to have Margo with us this evening.” Miss Baxter was turned toward Hasiba, who occupied the place of honor, to her left, at the dining room table. “She was my chef once, but foolishly, I let her slip away.”

Margo, standing in her white chef’s coat, was blushing ever so slightly.

“I lost her to the calling of the head chef position at the five-star Circular in Chicago. But every year she makes the trip to prepare a special dinner for the girls and me.”

“For your birthday,” Hasiba said.
