Chapter 23: I DON'T FEEL HOT

Good morning girl, how was your night, 

It was fine, I answered  Evelyn dropping my bag on the desk

Hmmmm I see, what does me asking you how your night was have anything to do with you blushing 

What blushing, I hurriedly felt my cheeks, aww they could fry egg from their hotness 

Wait... tell me it not what am thinking, did you two do it, no Mina you can't do that, I know I told you he might not be the one who told his parents but is just to give him benefit of doubt we still don't know what he wants from you .

Haaaa, I rub my forehead dreading an incoming headache, Evelyn, you shouldn't be in the office you should be writing novels or movie, this is not a drama okay, can you stop immagning  things 

Nothing like that happens okay, nothing 

Then why are you blushing, she ask, I know she won't leave me until I spill the bean 

We settle the issue, I explained the whole thing to her and how I told him am in love with him

Hmm lover birds, but the recording stuff  is not a small issue 

I know, he promise to find out who the person is 

Yes we should find out, do you think we can trust him to find out 

Yes we can 

So is because you have makeup and he told you he's also in love with you that you are blushing so hard, what if you do it will you burn 

Stop Evelyn,  do what, we have not even have our first date yet 

What about the lunch

I see, anyway this is your schedule for the day 

Thank you, let go to work then , I said carrying my laptop with Evelyn on my tails out of the office, walking towards the elevator, pressing the button, the door open I step in only to stop and turn back to the voice of Elizabeth calling me 

Good morning sister 

Elizabeth, good morning 

Is so amazing that we live in the same house but we did not get to see, sister you have to take it easy, at least  you should rest now that production has start hun 

Thanks Elizabeth, I promise to rest once we have our first sales and review 

Alright and sister am so sorry, I heard what happened from Dad, but why would they suddenly cut off the marriage, you guys are even in a relationship before, Dad didn't tell me why, what happen 

Honestly Mina, I don't know too but it okay , with you the contract is still valid, I heard the Eric's brother is in town and there will be a family dinner tonight, congratulations darling 

No don't congratulate me, am not happy with this 

You should be happy for yourself dear, at least you are not marrying your sister's man isn't that good enough, Evelyn chip in 

Yes I know right, am so sad and angry when Dad said I will be marrying brother in-law, ooouch, I didn't even want to think about it, I told Dad I can't, I would have abscond if they had me go through with it, I couldn't bear to hurt you like that, she said holding her sister's hand affectionately 

Even if you go through with it, I know it not your will so it okay Lizzy don't beat yourself too hard okay, now make sure you are in the best mood to meet Richard tonight, be happy alright, Mina cajole and hug her sister 

Am off to do some inspection, I will see you at home for dinner

Love you too Elizabeth, I said  looking at Elizabeth walking away down the corridor

Humph, Evelyn snorted with an irritating look, she could win a gold medal for acting you know

I rolled my eyes, walking Into  the elevator, pressing the button for the first floor, here we go again, I know what will come next, it will be Evelyn going on and on about me been naive around Elizabeth and trusting her blindly 

Look Mina, I know you are going to say am imagining things and all but don't trust Eli..........

When did they say the coffee bean will arrive, I ask obviously cutting her off 

Today 

Good, let's finish our work on time today, am somehow tired, I said sneezing 

Okay, do you have a cold, should I ask Lawrence to go get a cold drug 

No am fine I reply sneezing again

Are you sure 

Yes 

Okay then, we walk out of the elevator, towards Lawrence who already brought the car out of the parking lot 

The day went by so quickly, I left work early to take a nap before the dinner 

Margaret, Rhoda called 

Yes madam

Is everything for the dinner ready 

Yes ma, all is ready 

Good, and Margaret, what is it you have been planning with my daughter 

It nothing ma 

Hmmmm I see she told you not to tell me too 

There's nothing like that madam, we are not planning anything 

Is okay, I know my daughter has eyes for people, she wouldn't choose a dumb ass to do things for her, I like you, continue to keep your mouth shut 

Yes madam, you can go and see if your Miss need anything for the dinner tonight 

Alright madam, Margaret walk out of the room   to the second floor where Elizabeth room is,  knocking on the door twice, Miss can I come in 

Yes Margaret, what is it, Elizabeth reply from the room 

Madam ask me to check if you need anything 

No am good, and em how many days do we have left for the stuff to happen 

Less than ten days 

Ten days, okay, how many days were you able to use it 

Four times miss 

I see that you really put in all yours effort this time 

Yes Miss, I didn't want to to disappoint you again,

if this goes well I will fufill my promise to you, and I won't be needing you in future 

Alright Miss, are you sure they won't trace this back to us 

Don't worry about that, just do your job,I have a trash cleaner who cleans stuff like this perfectly well 

Okay Miss, am already preparing to leave as soon as possible 

Like we planned, you will leave in two days, and I will give you first payment, after which I will send the remaining payment when you are far away and the job is clean 

Thank you miss 

You can go, am sure you have things to do, it almost time for the dinner 

Yes young Madam, she walk out 

Miss, miss, are you in 

Yes come in Alice 

Miss are you alright

Yes  am fine, I guess the all night I pulled for the project is telling on me, I stood up from the bed streching with my hands in the air, haaa I need a hot bath, I said coughing, I guess I really did have a cold 

Should I get you something,  maybe a hot tea for now and I will get a cold drug from the chemist later 

Yes hot tea will be nice, but I will tell Lawrence to get me the drugs later 

Okay Miss 

Have finish dressing for the dinner when Eric call my phone 

Hey, you ready, he ask 

Yes, I reply 

Should I come walk you from your room 

It okay, this is not an outing besides you are only here because you are family you know, if not am sure my Dad wouldn't want to see you 

Mina you have to talk to your father about us okay, am serious with this relationship and I promise to take good care of you 

I will talk to him but let's give it time, are you guys here already 

Yes, okay see you in a bit, I said anxious to see him 

I walk into the dinning just in time when the  Daniels were coming in, my Dad and step mom welcome them, we all sat with the table already set, Dad sit opposite mom, the same with the Daniels, Richard sat opposite Elizabeth.

I also took my sit hoping to sit opposite Eric only to find him sitting right beside me 

Oh well well well 

Hm hm, Dad clears his throat, am happy the contract could still go on .......... he went on and on about what the two families will benefit from the marriage, and all. Mr Daniels do the introduction, while Richard tell us a little about himself, apparently he's doing his second second degree in strategic planning and will continue his program here in New York and also resume to work 

They decide to give them some time to get to know each other and so the wedding is set for December during Christmas which is in about a month and half, honestly is that even necessary, either they get along or not the wedding will still take place 

They will both do an interview to acknowledge their relationship and announce their engagement in a week ofcause with an engagement party which is to be held thereafter 

I  like Richard though he's nothing like his brother, he's kind of childish but cute and also talks a lot with a good sense of humor, am sure they will get along well 

The dinner went on and ended smoothly, we bid them farewell, I resume to my room to get ready for bed when a message pop in on my phone , it Eric 

Am outside, wish to see you before I leave 

I drape on my coat and went out, didn't you leave  with your parents and brother 

No I came with my car from the hospital 

Okay that where you work today, I ask 

Yes, come here, he said drawing me closer to him 

I... I....wanted to say am not ready yet you know been intimate and all when I realize what he's doing, he brought out a thermometer to check my temperature 

What are you doing am not sick am fine, I said flustterd 

Are you sure, he ask reading the result 

Yes, am just tired from working my butt off due to the project 

Oh I see he said nonchalantly

Off your slippers and step on this, he put down a weight checker, okay just do what he says Mina don't be paranoid 

I step on the balance and straighted up, he took the readings and I step down 

Your temperature is 37.5 and your weight is 48

What why do I loose so much weight and have that high temperature, I said feeling my forehead, but I don't feel hot 

Tell me what other thing are you feeling that's not normal, he ask drawing me a little bit closer, checking my eyes and my pulse I guess with the way he's holding my hand 

Em coughing and sneezing but then I don't feel like am having a cold it just out of the blue 

Why do you ask, what going on, I might have lost weight due to stress but it has never happen before even when stressed more than this 

here take this, he put a white envelope in my hand, take one tablet each every morning and evening, it will boost your immune system

Are you skipping your meals 

No am not Alice will always make sure I eat breakfast and dinner no matter what and Evelyn wouldn't allow me to skip lunch either I reply 

It okay am  just concern,  maybe it because of my profession or maybe am just acting out 

Acting out about what, I ask 

I lost one of my patients today she's brought in late, she has been showing signs but they didn't bring her to the hospital until it late 

Oh my God, I put my hand on his, am so sorry about that, I hug him to comfort him, he hug me back, it okay it happens 

You know this is the first time I could tell someone about what happen at work and get comforted, any time this happens I couldn't tell them at home because they did not like what I do, I always wallow in wine and sleep off it has always been my way of mourning my patients 

I feel so sorry for him, he couldn't even discuss these things at home, I patted his back, it okay I will be here anytime you need me and you can always discuss what happen at work with me 

Thanks Mina, I really appreciate it, he said hugging me tighter, he withdraw a little bit to look at my face, he raise his hand to touch my cheek then dropping to my neck, I shivered, I don't know if it from the cold breeze or Eric's touch 

I froze when I realized what he's about to do, am sorry Mina, I didn't mean to hurt you.........

My hands fall to my side livelessly with my eyes wider in shock
