Chapter 2: Kai Guterez

I sit alone in my room in my corner reading chair with a book open in my hands. Books are my life, they are the adventures I have, the realities I live. I mainly read adventure and magic books about going on a journey, such as The Hobbit. They are the adventures I can't experience myself in real life. The harsh reality.

In my sweatpants and tie-dye shirt, I read Firestarter by Stephen King when my mother walks in with a box. "I got a surprise for you sweetie," she smiles.

Mother places the box in my lap and I open the box with excitement. Inside is another Stephen King book, another to add to my collection. I hug my mom tight and thank her. "You didn't have to do this."

"I wanted to sweetie, I know he's your favorite author. It's to apologize."

"Apologize for what? You have nothing to be sorry for," I mention. This is weird, what could she be apologizing for?

"You have to come to a meeting for the company. I know you don't like coming to these type of things but you have to. We're meeting up with another company to discuss business and you're involved. Your father has an announcement to make," she explains.

I hate meetings. I don't have much to do with the company right now and I don't plan to for a while. I'm supposed to take over the company one day, which I am excited about, but right now I'm focusing on myself and how I can improve myself. Self reflection is something I do a lot, I want to be the best version of me I can be. I do it for myself, I have no one I'm trying to impress, but when the time comes that I meet someone I want to pursue, then I can be the best me towards the person. I would love to be a father one day, but now isn't the time. Yes, I'm 22, but it feels too early for me.

I get up and change into some dark jeans and a button down light blue shirt. Slipping on some brand loafer shoes and head out my bedroom door with my book in hand. I walk downstairs to see my parents on the couch in the living room.

"Ready to go?" My father asks as he stands from the couch and faces me.

"Yes, father," I replied. I don't have the closest relationship with my father, him being busy all the time, but we have an understanding towards one another about our roles.

"Let's go then." My father heads towards the front door and leaves the house with me and my mother following behind him. My parents go into the front seats, my father in the driver seat and my mother in the passenger seat, of the car as I get into the back seat behind my mother. On the drive to the meeting place I read two more chapters of my book. This place is further away than usual. I think we passed our company already. We arrive in another rich area of the town and park in front of a fancy restaurant. This should be interesting.
