001 Heartbreak And Awakening

"Haaah!" A man sighed as he walked along the sidewalk. Rain poured down on him, drenching his clothes, but the man didn't care; after all, it was helping him as it wiped his tears from his face. 

The man could only be said to be handsome; he had jet-black hair and golden-colored eyes that usually shone with confidence and mischief, but not today. 

SIGH 

The man sighed for the 100th time today; after all, how could he not? He just found out that his long-time girlfriend has been cheating on him. 

He truly loved that girl, 'Looks like she doesn't love me back!' he mumbled inwardly as he bit his lip. His heart banged against his chest while he tightly clenched his fists as he remembered the scene where she was kissing and hugging another man. 

The man was Mark Wood, a twenty-year-old man, son of William Wood, the owner of Wood private companies limited. 

His family is one of the richest in this world, owning several pharmaceutical, food, tech, and defense companies. 

"Hah! I bet that man wouldn't even care!" Mark yelled loudly against the echoing thunder. His father was absent for most of his life, and he grew more attached to his mother. As for his siblings, he had two older sisters and an older brother. 

He had a neutral relationship with them but didn't get along with his brother; after all, they both were fighting for the next chairman position. 

"Fuck! I can already see him laughing his ass off! That bastard!" Mark cursed loudly as he kicked a pebble off the road. 

THUNDER THUNDER 

Thunder roared across the sky as Mark kicked the pebble. Suddenly, the whole sky was illuminated by a bright white light, almost blinding Mark and the cars on the road. 

SCREEECH 

Cars screeched to a stop as drivers were too blinded by the light. 

CRASH 

One of the trucks behind a car crashed into the car, killing almost everyone in it. 

HONKS HONKS 

Honks of various vehicles echoed through the city as vehicles crashed into everything, be it other vehicles, people, or buildings. 

"Aaaaah!" Screams reverberated throughout the city as people with crushed limbs and severed waists shouted in horror. 

'What the fuck is happening!?' Mark screamed inwardly as he crouched down into a fetal position with his hands wrapped around his head.

He felt like his heart had jumped into his throat as he could feel it thumping louder and louder. 

As one of the heirs of the biggest companies on the planet, Mark had various combat training in his teenage years; he knew the best thing was to wait and let the chaos calm down before doing anything. 

Mark's breathing quickened with each second that passed. His lungs went into overdrive as he took in too much air.

Suddenly, almost giving him a heart attack, his phone vibrated in his pocket. 'I don't want to take it!' Mark decided as he knew that even if his hands couldn't properly protect his head, they offered some protection, and taking them off his head right now was the stupidest thing to do. 

A few minutes later, the bright light subsided, allowing the netizens of the world to see again. Mark slowly opened his shut eyes and peeked around through the gaps. 

Chaos, that's the word that came to Mark's mind after he saw what was happening around him. Cars were crashed into trees, buildings, and people. His eyes caught a glimpse of a man whose legs were severed and lying beside him as the man screamed his lungs out in terror. 

His eyes then shifted toward a car; in it were three women; they were bleeding from their heads, with one woman having her skull dangling from her hair.

His ears then caught the sound of a girl crying, and Mark's eyes darted toward its source to see a ten-year-old girl crying beside her dead father, who had several bones protruding out of his body. 

It seemed like the father shielded them from whatever hit, which ended up killing him. But sadly, he was unsuccessful, as the girl's face was bleeding with a steel rod going through one of her eye. 

THUD 

"Wake up....." The girl's voice trailed off as she died. Her body fell on top of her father, dying in his embrace. 

Mark's eyes widened in horror; he wanted to save the girl, he wanted to hug her and say something, but he couldn't. His legs went limp and got stuck to the ground, while his inner voice yelled at him to not take a step; after all, if he took another step, he might end up like them. 

Mark observed his surroundings with trembling eyes; his entire body shivered and trembled as he looked at the destruction surrounding him. Blood and bones were splattered everywhere, with organs dotting the road. 

Mark's eyes swirled, the images of a dead girl on her father, blood and bones of people. Organs lying around, with scent of iron over loading his nose. It was too much for him; his mind and body were spiraling out of control, while his chest heaved up and down like a piston as his breathing became more intense. 

Just when Mark was entering the deep abyss, a screen appeared in front of him.
