Borje looks more cheerful now. “I know you can colour up better than that, Charlotte.” And he slaps her again, harder this time, but still well within what she likes. She yelps, squirming, but the sound has a playful edge. She’s enjoying it too.

“Borje, use the crop,” says Kris, passing it back to him.

Borje’ smile fades. “I’ve never used one of these things.” He takes the crop reluctantly. “I don’t want to really hurt her.”

There’s grit in Kris’ tone. “So, you can learn….”

…. Alarm bells begin to ring in my head. I exchange glances with James, who is also frowning.

Borje passes the crop over Charlotte, the lip tracing a soft line over the top of her thighs. She shudders, and her perfume rises in a warm cloud.

“No. Harder,” insists Kris.
