Chapter 4 I will never be a hero

Arthur checked how strong Peter was through the tower dungeon system.

And he realized that 1 point in status comparable to a peak human in that aspect.

10 points in Str meant ten peak human strengths.

And this was Spiderman status window.

'His stat is ridiculous compared to mine. But his luck is in the negatives as expected. And he didn't have a level yet. Might because he didn't connect to the system yet.'

Arthur knew that Spiderman was ridiculously strong compared to other heroes.

He just held himself back a lot when fighting villains.

"W—Why?" Peter asked with a surprising voice.

He thought that Arthur would tell him if he showed up as Spider-Man.

Arthur thought about it a little bit before he gave him an honest answer.

Peter was a good guy, so he could believe in him.

But he couldn't believe whoever he was working with.

"I want to keep what I have to myself. I think sharing it would be more dangerous. The less people know about my power, the more advantageous it will be for me." Arthur said.

"I don't trust anyone enough to let them in on my secret," Arthur said firmly.

Peter could only nod in agreement, understanding the importance of secrecy when it came to their abilities.

He was like him at first. But as time went on, Peter realized the value of having someone to confide in.

"I understand, but I still think that you should have someone to rely on. This world is much more dangerous than you thought. Everything that you know is just a facade." Peter tried to convince him.

Arthur could only laugh in his mind.

He knew much more than him about how dangerous this world was, and because of that, he didn't want anyone to know about his power.

He even knew that this world was going to fall into much more chaos when the tower dungeon system activated for everyone.

And he didn't want to associate with anyone until he was sure that he was strong enough.

"I still don't want to. Please leave. I am very tired right now and want to go home." Arthur said it with a grumpy tone.

Peter still wanted to persuade him, but he remembered that someone told him that forcefully trying to convince someone too hard would only make things worse.

Peter could only sigh. This meant that he failed today.

So he needed to approach him  in a different way.

"Okay, I understand and will not force you to talk about it anymore, but please have this. Whenever you're in danger, please use it." Peter gave Arthur a device that could directly speak to him.

Arthur didn't know much about technology and didn't know if the device had a tracking feature or not.

However, he knew that his place might already be compromised.

So there was no point in refusing it.

Peter, after seeing that Arthur didn't refuse him and actually took the device. He felt happy.

"I will not disturb your time anymore. Have a good night." Peter jumped and webbed away.

Arthur looked at the device and shook his head.

"Just day one, and my existence has been exposed. Come to think of it. My luck isn't that good as well."

He couldn't change anything, and there was no point in thinking about it too much.

He went home with a heavy heart.

He didn't want to be involved with anyone, but he could tell that it was impossible.

His situation was the same as that of the protagonists in fanfiction.

His life would be full of twists and turns, just like in the stories he read online.

"Well, fuck it. I just face whatever comes my way. I already have the power to protect myself." Arthur thought of both boosted gear and divine dividing.

He might not be as strong as Spiderman. However, he was confident that he could survive.

It's been a week since he was transferred to the Marvel Universe.

Everything went well according to his wishes.

Peter hadn't come to try to convince him again since that day. But he could tell that there were many eyes on him.

They should be someone from Shield.

And he felt that his privacy was going to be invaded soon.

"At least send someone as hot as Black Widow to me. Why send some dudes to me?" Arthur thought to himself.

There was no secret in this world if Shield existed.

Peter would still come and talk to him.

Arthur didn't mind it if they were to interact in a friendly manner.

He was still late at work even after the exam, but he was motivated to finish his tasks for the day.

Mr.Kenny didn't scold him, so it wasn't his place to say anything.

Peter must be very busy to do hero work.

The last time he fought with a villain called the Red Scorpion, he ended up late for a whole week as he needed time to recover.

"The life of a hero always ends in misery." Arthur swore to himself that he would never become a hero.

In the past week, he also became stronger without having to do anything.

'This is good. If I used boosted gear and divine dividing. I might be able to fight Spiderman.'

He thought about it and shook his head.

Nope, he would still lose badly if they were to fight.

He needed to train himself to gain experience if he wanted to fight Spiderman.

Arthur finished his work for today, and it was time for him to go home, however.

"Wait a minute, Arthur. I have something to tell you." Mr.Kenny stopped Arthur first.

Arthur was surprised that Mr.Kenny stopped him, and he was curious as to why.

Mr.Kenny always puts his working ethic to the max.

And he never let anyone work more than he had paid for.

This meant that he might need to work overtime, which shouldn't be the case.

They could handle customers in a timely manner. So it should be something else.

"There will be a very rich customer coming here. He tipped people very generously. If you work well, you will have more money to last for a whole month. And I will also give you a bonus if you can provide exceptional service to this customer." Mr.Kenny knew that Arthur was in need of money.

Living in the big city by himself should be hard and lonely.

He wanted to help him as much as he could.
