Chapter 145: Thanos' Old Thief Mistook Me!
"Ahem... Am I not dead?"
Phil Coulson touched his chest in disbelief and found that the wound had long since disappeared, which immediately made him suspicious.
"Yes, you are dead, and Fury has announced your passing, earning many tears. I doubt you will be seen by the world for a long time."
Phil Coulson considered the situation and gave a wry smile. "If this can unite the Avengers, then it's all worth it. You saved me, right? Thank you."
"Don't thank me. I was merely doing something I wanted to do with minimal effort."
Thor turned to Maria Hill. "Agent Hill, this is a secret between us. You'll keep it confidential, right?"
"Huh? Uh... yes."
Maria Hill clearly had not yet recovered.
Walking out of the room, Karla was waiting for him.
Seeing him come out, joy flashed across her face as she ran up and gently tugged at his sleeve.
"What's wrong?" Thor asked.
Karla said softly, "The man with the big metal suit and the shield with the star..."
"Stop, stop!"
Thor interrupted with a shake of his head. "Little girl, what kind of nickname is that?"
"Ah..." Karla's face fell, and she said plaintively, "Stark and Steve are discussing how to deal with Loki. The Avengers you lead already have their first district."
"Yes, I know."
Thor nodded. As a member of the original Avengers, he would definitely join them.
Karla continued to tug at his sleeve. "Well, I..."
Thor paused, then realized what she meant. "You want to join the Avengers?"
Karla nodded eagerly. "I want to prove that I can be a superhero too! It's just that Stark and the others think I'm too young, even though my strength is sufficient."
Given all the comics in this world, Karla, being inspired by her cousin, certainly doesn't want to hide her innate abilities. She aspires to be the Superman of this world.
"Very well."
Thor patted her on the head and smiled. "I officially approve. You are now an Avenger!"
As for Stark, they would come around, just as they had with Spider-Man in the future.
"If Loki wants to open a portal, the place he chooses must meet an important condition."
Stark analyzed, "That condition is energy. The place he chooses must have a strong enough energy source to support continuous portal openings."
"Energy source?"
Hawkeye mused, "Could he be targeting a nuclear power plant?"
"Impossible!" Natalia retorted. "Nuclear energy is too dangerous. If something goes wrong and it explodes, his army will be destroyed."
"Exactly," Stark agreed. "I know Loki better than anyone. For him, the result is secondary. The process and the spectacle are more important. He wants his performance to be seen by everyone, a towering monument with his name on it."
"Nuclear power plants are often in sparsely populated areas with no monuments that fit his need for grandeur."
"With an energy source, does he need a lot of people? Is there such a place?"
Stark shook his head, unsure.
"Yes!" Thor said with a half-smile. "And your name is engraved on it."
"Dammit!" Stark exclaimed. "The bastard is targeting my building!"
Ten golden portals slowly appeared downstairs at Stark Industries. Thor emerged from the portals with a group of Avengers.
Thor, Karla, and Stark flew into the air together, scanning the area. Loki was indeed here.
However, there was no sign of the Tesseract or any portal-making facilities...
"J.A.R.V.I.S., I want all surveillance footage of Stark Building, including locations of Dr. Eric and the Tesseract."
"Sir, no trace of Dr. Eric or the Tesseract has been found."
Had they guessed wrong?
Thor frowned.
At that moment, Loki's voice echoed, "Thor, my dear big brother, you found this place so quickly? Why, are you here to watch my performance? I've prepared the best stage for you!"
"Loki, I don't have time for your games. Tell me where the Tesseract is!"
Thor interrupted him with a stern voice.
Loki laughed loudly. "Before answering your question, I have a grand gift for you!"
As he finished speaking, a dark blue portal with immense power slowly opened in the air. At the same time, countless Chitauri in unfamiliar armor and fighter planes rushed out.
The war had begun!
"Bastard!"
Stark yelled, launching a missile towards the portal.
Loki's expression remained unchanged as the missile passed through him without any effect.
"This is an illusion!" Stark shouted. "No, the army is coming!"
Just as he was about to ascend, Thor quickly reached the high-altitude portal, surrounded by a destructive wave of thunder.
"Hahahaha... Earth, this primitive and backward planet, is it ready for our arrival? Weak humans, welcome to your doom..."
"Wow..."
The Chitauri suddenly froze. The commander, halfway through his taunt, choked on his words.
The fear of the past overwhelmed them. The Chitauri would never forget this evil god who had slaughtered millions of their kin.
"Who the hell told me that Earth is just a primitive planet? That one round of bombing could destroy it?"
"I haven't troubled you for years, but you dare invade my territory?"
"Hmph—"
The higher the status, the more afraid of death. The Chitauri leader quickly retreated, rushing back through the portal, leading the soldiers in a hasty retreat...
"Is this a joke?"
Stark whistled in disbelief.
Elsewhere, Loki seethed with anger. "Chitauri bastards, I curse your grandmothers! Thanos, old thief, got me!!!"
