Chapter 14: Unintentional Rogue

"Zoey." Headmistress Olsen crept forward with her hands out in supplication. "You've done enough. Return the magic to Jasper, Kento, and Reed."

My mind couldn't wrap the meaning around her words. What was she talking about? All this power was mine. I squeezed my hands and two more Wendigos imploded. It felt like I squished a grape in each palm. "No one could stop them except me."

"That's the darkness talking." She took a step toward me. "You mustn't listen to the seduction of it, it's not real. It's stolen."

"No." I shook my head, her words confusing me. "I-I borrowed...t-they gave it to me."

"Yes, to fight the Wendigos, but look...there are no more. We're safe."

I blinked and the dozens of wolf-creatures I'd been fighting laid in blood heaps with their insides strewn all over the walls and floor. My stomach heaved.

"Let the magic go that's not yours." She stopped when I glared at her. "It will return to the rightful owners."
