Impatient Will

I'm in the kitchen, cooking spring rolls when my phone rings. I hurry over to pick it up from the counter, nearly tripping on my feet. I didn't realize how much I was missing Will until I heard that custom ring sound set exclusively for his calls.
Not too long ago, that sound was eerie, like the soundtrack before a monster charges at a character in a horror film. I set it as a warning for when disaster was about to strike. But now, my heart is racing long before I answer the call.
"What are you doing?" He asks, his voice deep and soothing.
"Cooking," I say.
"Good. I thought you'd be baking angry bread." He sounds amused. I can picture him smiling on the other end. "When you're done, can we talk?"
