CHAPTER -01
"THE FUNERAL"
It had been raining since last night.
So,there were too many umbrellas there. Not many faces were shown, under the umbrellas.
It wasn't that he would actually recognize anyone even if he saw them.
All these people who came here and those who were coming to him, telling him how sorry they were for his loss,he didn't know them.
They were total strangers to him.
Even his sister who was sitting beside her husband, wasn't very familiar to him.
She looked like him though. Those big blue eyes maybe the certificate that she was also a member of Holmes family.
She was very destressed. Her husband was consoling her patiently, also holding their six years old daughter.
It was his father's funeral. The only person in this huge gathering that seemed real to him,was lying on the black coffin wearing his favorite grey suit.
Benjamin Robertson, his father's best friend and his godfather, was giving eulogy for his father.
Ace Holmes looked up at the sky but couldn't find from where the sky was crying from.
Why was she so sad? Did she lost someone too? Would she be okay if she cried?
Ace thought maybe he should cry too.
Afterall,he just lost his father. But,Ace didn't feel any sadness rather there was a relief. Finally,it was over.
Were these people really sad? Did they ever see his father? Or even knew his father?
What's the point of all these? Ace didn't know.
"Father would have been amused to hear uncle Ben," Ace thought.
His father didn't have too many emotions but he hated hypocrite people.
Benjamin Robertson was done with his speech.
Then, they all took the coffin to the graveyard.
Ace looked at his father's face.
Was his father happy in his life?
Did he have any regrets in his life?
Ace could never know.
Ace stood a far and watched as his father's last remaining piece was buried in the ground.
Ace stood there without going towards the coffin.
"Ace,you should go there," Ace heard his sister.
He didn't say anything in response.
What happened after death? Now what? What would happen to his father now? Would he go to the afterworld and face his judgement? Or,he would wait to be born again as the Chinese believe?
Ace knew his father was an atheist. So,what happened to the atheist? Where did their soul go?
Ace looked ahead as the coffin got buried into the earth slowly and slowly and it suddenly hit him that his father was gone.
His father would never be back again.
"What should I do now?" Ace thought.
"Ace," he heard his sister calling him.
So,he turned around to look at her.
"Let's go," she said.
Ace nodded and followed her to the garden in front of the their house where everyone was having some little snacks.
Ace went inside and sat down in a corner. He was feeling really tired. He wanted to go home and sleep.
It's been 48hours since he last slept.
Ace was in Venice when his godfather called him and told him that his father was dead.
Ace didn't know what to feel when he got the news.
"How can father be gone? Who will take care of me now?" That's what he thought.
"I'm really sorry for your loss," someone came and told Ace.
Ace just nodded in response.
Should he say something? He didn't know.
Soon, everyone started to leave but Ace remained seated there.
"It's over," Ace sighed in relief when he was the only one left in the
large garden.
"Goodbye, father,"Ace said softly looking at the sky.
