"Yeah, certainly, and feel free to call me once you have something available," Emily replied cheerfully, and then she disconnected. When the act was through, she reverted to herself, leaving her with little choice except to respond to another job posting in the hope of finding employment.
Feeling defeated, she threw herself onto her couch and shut her eyes. Images of Angelo flashed before her, and all she could think about was him. She assumed that Angelo had been the one to have her fired, but she was dearly mistaken.
The relief in his eyes when she told him that he was not to blame for her job loss was all the consolation Emily needed, and she accepted his vow to put things right without question.
"You are losing your mind," Emily reminded herself. There was no chance of them ever getting together because of their vast economic differences; Angelo was rich, and she was about as poor as one could get. He was about to tie the knot with Fiona, of all people.
