Watching the doctor work on saving Adriano had been the most nerve-racking experience I had ever gone through. I had fought between my stomach turning and my tears pouring down my cheeks. Sobs had begged to spring forth, but I had held them back.
Was this how he had felt when I had almost died? Had he felt this sick and hollow? Had his heart ached this bad? How had he dealt with it so well? Oh wait, he hadn’t. His friends had helped him handle it.
I was instantly thankful for Nyx, Alessandro, and Leo for being there for him. If they hadn’t been, I didn’t know how he would have dealt with what had happened to me. I understood now why he wanted to protect me from everything because all I wanted to do was do the same for him.
No bone in my body wanted to see him suffer again. I didn’t know if I could handle it. He had almost slipped through my fingers, and had been lucky Damian had missed his heart by an inch.
