Chapter 49

Shane looked between the two of them, clearly unsure who to focus on. “So we’re staying in?”

“I didn’t spend the last six hours making sure everything is perfect for us to go out.” Stella looped her arm through his and pulled him out to the living room. “How about wine first? We can toast to our new house.”

It was impossible to miss the smile in Lucky’s eyes as he took the wine out of the ice. The same smile reflected on Shane’s face. It warmed her through and made the tips of her fingers tingle. She knew if she mentioned that to Lucky, he would suggest they bypass the wine and food altogether. Especially since the two of them couldn’t even taste food properly or enjoy the wine.

“Who would like to offer the toast?” Lucky asked. “Shane?”

Shane’s eyes grew contemplative as Lucky filled his glass. “I don’t really want to toast the new house, if that’s okay.”

Momentary panic washed through her. “It was just an idea. I could get dinner out for you, if you’d prefer.”
