Chapter 23

The horrid music stopped, and Shane moved to the front of the room, standing behind the podium. He still had bags under his eyes, but otherwise, he looked well put together, and as handsome as he always did.

“I’d like to thank all of you for coming today, though I regret it’s circumstances like these that bring us all together…”

Stella leaned closer. “I’m glad Shane at least let me pick what suit for him to wear. He looks good, don’t you think?”

“Yes. You’ve got a great eye. Of course, looking good isn’t going to help him too much with this crowd.”

“I don’t think he invited anybody he’s remotely attracted to. How are we supposed to find him a lover if he refuses to even look?”

“I don’t know. Between that and his refusal to even consider a vacation, I have no idea what we can do to make him happy. I feel like every time I try to broach the subject, it just upsets him.”

“He’s still fragile from the accident.”

“I think he might be…mad at me still.”
