CHAPTER 16: Rumours
Kelly Simons woke up to her alarm blaring in her ear. She groggily hit the snooze button, trying to shake off the remnants of a strange dream. In the dream, she was dating Joseph, the stoic and cold heir of a powerful family. It was ridiculous, of course.
As she got dressed and ready for school, Kelly couldn't shake off the fieeling that something was off. She brushed it off as pre-school jitters and headed to school.
Kelly had just arrived at school and she noticed people giving her weird stares and she was really confused until she got to class and she noticed peter run up to her.
"kelly is it true? are you really dating that rude guy?" he asked worriedly. " what rude guy?" she asked looking confused.
" you know who I'm talking about that joseph guy. Someone posted a picture of you guys kissing and holding hands on the school forum and said you were dating. So tell me is it true?"
she was about to say something but was interrupted by a deep voice. " so what if it is?" joseph said coldly.
And everyone in the class were not only shocked by his sudden appearance but also by what he said. He just admitted that what they saw on the school forum was true.
After saying that joseph took kelly and exited the classroom. kelly was confused throughout
"Hey, what's going on?" Kelly asked, feeling uneasy.
"Did you hear the news?" Joseph asked. "That we are dating!"
"What?" Kelly exclaimed, feeling her cheeks heat up. "That's ridiculous. We're not dating."
"Well, someone spread a rumor that we are," Joseph said while feeling hurt by her reaction.
Lisa's face went pale. "so what are we supposed to do?" she asked nervously.
"Well we have to continue to with the act," joseph replied and Kelly's eyes widened. " Cant you think of a way to clear the rumor? I mean you're the school prince, who wouldn't believe you?"
Of course joseph knew how to convince everyone that the rumours were fake and that they aren't dating, but he wants to keep her by his side for as long as he can. " I can't think of a way , and even if I did tell everyone that we aren't dating, what are we supposed to do when your sister tells your dad everything?"
Well he had a point there. she already figured that maria might be the one who spread the rumor, so if they did clarify the matter maria would gain from it.
Kelly sighed. She knew how rumors worked in Crest High. Once they started, they were hard to stop. She couldn't imagine what Joseph would say when he heard about this.
Kelly felt her face flush. "I don't know. It's just a stupid rumor. But if we don't do it, Lisa will win, and I don't want to give her that satisfaction.
maria thought for a for a long moment, then sighed. "Fine. But this doesn't mean anything. It's just for show.
Joseph smiled and looked away. He was obviously hurt by what she said, but kelly didn't notice.
He held her hands and walked her to class, many students who were around gave them skeptical look but they couldn't voice their opinion because no one in their right mind would want to get on Joseph bad side.
And so, Kelly and Joseph spent the day pretending to be a couple, dodging curious glances from their classmates and trying to act natural. Kelly couldn't help but feel like this was the start of something complicated.
