Chapter 59

Hermione shot up in her bed. She looked around and saw she was in her room. She sighed and let herself fall back down, pulling the duvet up to her chin and rolling over to her side. ‘Why does all of this need to happen to me?’ Hermione sighed. Hermione closed her eyes and tried to catch some more sleep before she had to get out. After five minutes sleep had fallen upon her and the next morning she woke up around 8. She got dressed and walked out of the common room down the stairs to the Great Hall where she was greeted by her friends. ‘Is Ginny still sick?’ Hermione asked. Harry nodded. ‘Is she okay?’ ‘Yes, she’s getting better.’ Harry said. Hermione nodded. ‘If you want, you can come with me and visit her?’ Harry said. ‘Maybe later, I’ve still got lots to do.’ Hermione said with a small smile. Harry nodded. Hermione looked over to the Slytherin table and didn’t see Draco. She shrugged it off and started her breakfast. ‘Where’s Ron?’ Hermione asked. ‘I have no idea.’ Harry shrugged. ‘You share a bedroom with him.’ Hermione said. ‘Yes, but when I woke up he was gone.’ Harry said. Hermione raised her eyebrows. ‘Strange.’ Hermione said. ‘So it’s just me and you.’ Harry said. Hermione nodded. ‘Could you help me with my homework today? I got stuck and I can’t get any further.’ Harry said. ‘Yeah sure, no problem.’ Hermione said taking a sip of her pumpkin juice. Harry gave her a smile. ‘Thanks.’ he said. ‘No problem.’ she laughed. ‘Just as long as you know that I’m not going to do your homework for you.’ Hermione said. ‘I’m not Ron.’ Harry laughed. Hermione smiled. ‘True.’ she said. ‘He’s changed a lot.’ Harry said. ‘So did you.’ Hermione said. ‘Same is for you.’ Harry said. ‘I hope in a good way.’ she said. ‘We had to grow up fast, nothing you can do about it.’ Harry shrugged. ‘Yeah, not every twelve year old is getting stalked by a dark lord who wants to rule the Wizarding World.’ Hermione said. ‘Indeed and not every twelve year old gets to hear they’re a wizard.’ Harry said. Hermione chuckled. ‘Also true.’ ‘But we survived.’ Hermione said. ‘We sure as hell did.’ Hermione laughed. ‘Do you still think about it?’ Hermione asked. Harry nodded silently. ‘Me too.’ she sighed. ‘It were difficult times with great losses.’ Harry said. Hermione nodded. ‘I’ve got a letter from Andromeda, Teddy is doing great.’ Harry said. Hermione smiled. ‘That’s good to know.’ she said. ‘What about her?’ she asked. ‘She’s fine. She’s coping.’ Harry said. ‘Just like the rest of us.’ ‘Just like the rest of us.’ Harry nodded. ‘It’ll hurt less after a while.’ Hermione said. ‘I know, it’s still hard though.’ Harry said. Hermione nodded. ‘But that’s understandable.’ she said. ‘We lost a lot of people, people we loved.’ Hermione said. Harry nodded looking down at his plate. ‘But you’ve got to think of the times they were still here, the times they made you laugh, when they protected you, when they made you feel like you belonged.’ Hermione said. ‘I bet they wouldn’t want us to suffer.’ Hermione said. ‘I feel guilty.’ Harry said. Hermione looked at her friend who was fighting the tears. ‘I feel guilty, all the time.’ he said. Hermione nodded. ‘I could say that you don’t have to feel guilty, but it won’t work.’ Hermione said. ‘The only thing you can do about it is to let go.’ Hermione said. ‘That’s difficult.’ Harry said. ‘I know it is.’ Hermione said. ‘But you’ll be alright, we all be alright.’ Hermione said. ‘We have to be.’ she said. ‘You know I just see this as something good, we’ve been through so much, we’ve been having the hardest time ever the past 7 years, but maybe our luck is building up and we’ll end up as the happiest people walking around on this earth.’ Hermione said. ‘Since when are you all pro karma?’ Harry laughed. Hermione smiled. ‘Since I’ve changed.’ Hermione said. ‘You know, everything happens for a reason.’ Hermione said. ‘Something goes wrong and we’ll get to learn from the mistakes we made so we won’t make them a second time, we lose people so we learn how to let go.’ Hermione said. ‘Philosophic.’ Harry said. Hermione laughed. ‘I’m doing my very best.’ Hermione said. ‘Very inspiring.’ Harry said. ‘Good, that’s what I was going for.’ Harry laughed. ‘Shall we get started on our homework?’ Harry asked. Hermione nodded and got up. ‘Get your stuff and I’ll see you in the library.’ Hermione said. Harry nodded and they went their own ways to their common rooms. Hermione fast got her things and walked down to the library, picking a good spot. It had been a long time since she had helped her friends with homework. She thought back to the conversation she just had with Harry. How could she give people advice, but didn’t follow it herself? Harry’s right it’s hard to let go. It’s difficult as hell, but what can you do about it? People come and go and there is no stopping. Not only Ron, Harry and she had changed, everyone had. Literally everyone had made a huge change. Even the professors. Some good and some bad, but everyone had changed. The Wizarding War was a traumatizing experience for everyone. ‘I’m here.’ Harry said, sitting down next to her. ‘Hi.’ she said. ‘What were you thinking?’ Harry asked. ‘Nothing special.’ Hermione gave him a small smile. ‘So what can I help you with?’ she asked.

Hermione walked up the stairs with her books pressed closely to her chest. When she past a corner she saw platinum blonde hair in front of her. She wanted to call his name, but she decided to not do that. She saw Draco was talking to Blaise. Hermione sighed and turned around, walking back the way she had come from. It was almost dinner time, she could go downstairs, she didn’t have to take her books to her room before dinner, she could do that after. She walked down and when she arrived in the Great Hall she saw Harry was already seated. She walked over to him and sat down next to him. ‘You finished?’ Hermione asked. ‘Yep, thanks to you.’ Harry said. ‘Maybe I’m walking around on this earth to help you guys get through Hogwarts.’ Hermione said. Harry laughed. ‘That’s possible yes.’ Harry said. ‘We love you though.’ Harry said. Hermione laughed. ‘What would we do without you.’ he said. ‘I think you were still making homework.’ Hermione said. ‘I think you might be right.’ Harry said. ‘Have you seen Ron today?’ Hermione asked. ‘He’ll come in a minute.’ Harry said and that’s when Ron walked in. ‘Speak of the devil.’ Hermione said. ‘What?’ Ron asked sitting down opposite from them. ‘Oh nothing.’ Hermione said. ‘Okay….’ Ron said. ‘You know, I was thinking.’ Ron said. ‘What?’ Hermione and Harry asked in unison. ‘We’ll be graduated this year.’ Ron said. Hermione clapped. ‘Good observation Ron.’ Hermione said. ‘Oh shut up, I meant, we’ll be working after this.’ Ron said. ‘We’ll be having a job, and what if we won’t see each other again?’ Ron asked. Hermione raised her eyebrows and looked over to Harry. ‘Of course we’ll see each other.’ Harry said. ‘You’re dating my sister, I won’t be able to get rid of you. But I meant the three of us.’ Ron said. ‘Well don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere.’ Hermione said. Ron nodded. ‘Good.’ he said. ‘The Golden Trio sticks together.’ Harry said. Hermione and Ron laughed. ‘Such a stupid name.’ Ron laughed. ‘It is.’ Harry said. ‘Why not, the three musketeers.’ Hermione said. ‘Good one.’ Harry said. ‘I don’t understand.’ Ron said. Hermione and Harry laughed. ‘Never mind, it’s not important.’ Hermione said. Ron raised his eyebrows, but shrugged it off. He took some chicken on his plate and started to eat. ‘Calm down, no one is taking it from you. It’s all yours.’ Hermione said. Ron rolled his eyes, not slowing down. ‘Ron hasn’t changed that much.’ Harry said. ‘No, no he hasn’t.’ Hermione laughed. ‘What are you talking about?’ Ron asked. ‘Oh nothing.’ they said in unison. ‘Where were you this morning anyway?’ Hermione asked. ‘I had fallen asleep on my homework.’ Ron shrugged. ‘Woke up way too late.’ he said. ‘You poor thing, you missed breakfast.’ Hermione said. ‘I went down to the kitchen and got  myself some delicious breakfast, so don’t worry about me.’ Ron said ignoring the sarcasm. ‘Well I don’t know about you guys, but I’m going to lie in bed and read a book.’ Hermione said getting up. ‘Good night.’ the guys said. ‘Good night.’ Hermione said before walking out of the Great Hall and up to her dormitory. When she arrived in her room she changed into her pyjama’s and brushed her teeth. After removing her make-up she lied down in bed and took her book from the nightstand. After an hour she had fallen asleep with her book resting on her stomach. But she woke up when she felt the bed move. ‘I haven’t seen you all day.’ Lips were pressed against hers and a small smile appeared on her face. ‘I was busy.’ she said. ‘I’m sure you were.’ Hermione opened her eyes, hearing a chuckle in his voice. ‘Did I miss anything?’ Draco asked.
