Chapter 42: Joe

Joe buried Henry on Tuesday. He thought the day was fitting for a funeral; Clouds had blown in, and it had become cool. A light drizzle fell all day, and Joe wished for a moment that the sun would make an appearance, but part of him felt that the sad weather truly went along with his feelings.

Joe walked up to where his father would be laid to rest. He knelt next to the headstone and looked to his mother's grave that lay just next to his father's plot. Joe ran his hand across her headstone feeling her name carved into the stone. As he did this Elizabeth walked up and placed her hand on his shoulder. "How are you doing?"

Joe looked up at her. "I was just saying hello to Mom."

Elizabeth rubbed his shoulder. "The pastor is ready to get started." He reached up, taking her hand. "Ok, I guess Mom will take him from here."
