As Axel and his friends continued to gaze upon the wolf-humanoid statue, a dark figure appeared in the distance. The figure was cloaked in black, with a hood covering their face, making it difficult to discern their features.
As the figure approached, Axel and his friends grew uneasy.
Navi whispered.
"Be careful; we don't know what this figure is at all!"
Navi did not forget to mention "what is" instead of "who is", as they have encountered many monsters. At this point, Navi stopped describing the moving things as referring to humans at all. From what they can see, there is nothing human about these ruins from the time they have been here.
The behavior of Navi at this point can be considered normal. It is best for her and others to classify others as unknown beings instead of humans. Who knew maybe it would be better to encounter unknown beings compared to humans? As everyone knows, humans have different kinds of minds. One can expect almost anything from them almost all the time.
They couldn't tell if the figure meant them harm or anything else. Axel noticed that the figure had a humanoid body, but its height reached almost two and a half meters. From the cloak, he can see only this much of his body.
"Welcome, humans,"
Navi and others exchanged eye contact. The figure referred to them as humans, which means that the figure itself is not human at all. This is information that is worth something.
The figure said, their voice was deep and raspy. "I couldn't help but notice you admiring the statue. It's quite an impressive piece of work, isn't it?"
Axel and his friends nodded cautiously, unsure of what to make of the strange creature.
The figure continued, "I couldn't help but overhear your conversation. You seem like a brave bunch. Let's see who's going to survive."
With that, the figure turned and disappeared into the woods, leaving Axel and his friends bewildered and unnerved.
Axel directly commented. "He vanished from my sight; I am not able to sense or locate him at all."
"What was that all about?" Azer asked, his hand forming a punch ready but still not scared of the unknown.
"I don't know," Axel replied. "But we should be careful. We don't know what kind of danger we might be facing."
Ely nodded in agreement, scanning the area for any signs of danger. Ekail is already gripping his daggers and knives in his hands. Activating his NEN ability if anything happens.
Navi took a deep breath and thought. "This mission is getting more dangerous every second for everyone. I need to stop this mission here at once and report everything to the Ging and Hunter Organization and finish the mission."
Navi was no fool. It can be said that she was the most experienced member of the team. She had already noticed that the nature of this mission had changed. It is not a mission of exploration or expedition anymore; it has become a combat mission that they have to fight most of the time.
The team's only combatants are herself, despite not much, and Ekail, with the most powerful one, Axel.
Azer and Ely are not suited to be here anymore.
The group continued on their journey, keeping a watchful eye out for any signs of the mysterious black-hooded man. They couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched and that danger lurked around every corner.
