Classes and clubs

"Good thing Professor is not here or we would have been done for"Ron said after failing to locate Professor near the podium.

Suddenly, The cat jumped from the table and transformed into Professor McGonagall. Harry just stood there aghast with his mouth open while Ron looked like he has seen the most amazing magic in the world.

"Cool" Ron said after the display. My stomach started hurting after trying to hold my laughter. McGonagall's face looks ashen at the stupid remark of the student in front of her.

"Thank you Mr. Weasely. It would have been better if I turned you or Mr. Potter into a clock. At least one of you would be on time" She replied mockingly.

"We got lost" Harry replied. I can see McGonagall's hand twitch towards her wand. She took a deep breath and said.

"Maybe a Map, It will at least help you to find your seat in the class." and turn around and walk back to the podium while Harry and Ron took the sea closest to them.

"Transfiguration is some of the most complex and dangerous magic you will learn at Hogwarts," the professor said. "Anyone messing around in my class will leave and not come back. You have been warned." while glancing over the duo who were keeping their head down

She explained the basics of Transfiguration to us. She didn't give us the task to change match into needle but she explained a lot about how magic affects matter in their surroundings. There seem to be two types of transfiguration, One deals with changing the property of metal and the other with shape. Combining both of them gives the best effect.

She explained that changing property lasts only for a certain period of time and after which it wears off whereas changing the structure of the object is permanent which is why transfiguration of solid to gas or liquids is strictly prohibited.

Soon two hours passed and bell rand signaling the end of class. Hogwarts has two classes each day of two hours each. I along with Hermione and Neville went to the Great hall for lunch. We discussed our own take on the concept. It was weird that Neville seems to be more proactive in the talk in discussing.

The next class was History of Magic, which was the only one taught by a ghost. Professor Binns had been very old indeed when he had fallen asleep in front of the staff room fire and got up the next morning to teach, leaving his body behind him. Binns droned on and on while they scribbled down names and dates, while I got Emetic the Evil and Uric the Oddball mixed up.

Soon the class was over and we went out trying to locate the library in this massive castle. Soon enough under the guidance of seniors, we were able to find it on the first-floor corridor. The Hogwarts Library in one word was massive. There was bookshelf upon bookshelf filled books. I could spot Madam Pince moving between selves and placing books in selves.

There were several pamphlets placed on the table near the entrance of the library. I went ahead and saw that they are recruitment forms of clubs. There seems to be more than a dozen of them laying around.

"Neville are you interested in any clubs" I asked while checking them out.

"Yeah, this greenskeeper club seems kinda fun" He replied. I took out one of the green pamphlets and checked it out. It seems that they are clubs that are interested in studying and trying to create new species of magical plants. I think they really suit Neville as he is most interested in Herbology.

"Hey Jack check this out, it's dueling club" Hermione said while passing me a purple-colored pamphlet. I looked over and it seems pretty interesting. Not only they hold dueling after school hours but it's a great club for new students. The only requirements seem to be some basic spells used in duels and it's compulsory to attend gatherings twice a month which is feasible.

"I immediately took out my quill and started filling out my details on the registration form. I can see Hermione and Neville too have decided to join the dueling club. Neville also seems to be filling the Greenkeeper form along with it.

I submitted the form in the magical box kept at the end of the table. I looked at more clubs that could be interesting. Chess club and pranking club is a no-go I can see the twins are the creator and the only members of the prank club. Maybe I will join them if they are not asking me to devote too much of my time there.

There was also a cheering club for the quidditch matches but it was only for girls and Hermione doesn't seem to be the type to go and cheer in a match. There was also a potion club which was started by Slughorn which could be useful but I am not very interested in making potions.

I filled form for Pranking club just to get close with twins. My school life will be much better with a little bit of fun.

After going through the rest of the club's information we still didn't find any that interest us except I found Healing club which basically has no member and is run by Poppy Pomfrey the school nurse. If I am not wrong she may be looking for an apprentice to decrease her workload but the requirement was a little strict. Maybe I should ask her to let me join.

We went further inside and made ourselves comfortable and took out our books to finish all homework that was given today even though the next Transfiguration lesson was three days later.

Soon we finished our homework and did some light reading in tomorrow's class and went for dinner. In the great hall, we met with Harry and Ron who seems to have gone ahead and explored the castle for the entire evening. They told all about how they were mapping out all the routes to classes beforehand. Soon dinner was served and unlike shown in movies, everyone got the same thing but there was an unlimited refill. There were some beans and greens with a steak, It was good as usual but I am not a fan of beans.

We headed back to our dorms and changed into pajamas. Gonzo was back and sitting on the edge of my bed. I wrote a letter to my parents and hand it over to Gonzo and slept.

A great end for a great day.
