Judgment (End)

"Jacob voss, you are being tried in this court, for the crimes of espionage, trespassing on the empire, and attempted murder of the gate guards. Your lawyer will be yourself, since we have laws that prohibit anyone suspected of being a spy from receiving support, assistance, or the defense of any lawyer, so let's get your trial started?"

Jacob nodded for the trial to begin and the judge spoke again:

"Bring in the first witness to depose."

Quickly the gate guards walked up to in front of the judge and spoke:

"My name is Gilbert."

"My name is glaus."

The judge looked at the truth mage waiting for the answer and quickly it came:

"Truth."

Receiving confirmation, the judge nodded and asked another question:

"At noon and 27 minutes on the 7th of the lanuarii month, you were guarding the south gate, am I correct?"

"Yes sir."

"And at this same time, a man named Jacob voss, tried to infiltrate the empire and tried to kill them?"

"Yes sir."

Again the judge looked at the truth mage and again, the mage nodded his head showing that all that was true and the judge spoke:

"Good, back to your seats, now Bring me Jacob voss to depose."

Quickly the guards went back to their business and jacob voss began to walk to in front of the judge and waited.

The judge began to read a piece of paper that was on his desk and then looked at Jacob and asked:

"Your name is Jacob voss?"

"Yes your honor."

The judge calmly looked at the truth mage waiting for the answer.

Jacob at the same time looked at the truth mage waiting for him to say Yes, but to his misfortune, the truth mage said loudly and in a clear tone:

"Lie."

(Explanation: Truth magic, can detect truths in people's words, but this only works because a relationship occurs between the user's mana and the mana of the individual affected by the magic, i.e. since there is no mana in Jacob's body, the mage cannot make the connection between them, resulting in the mage thinking that Jacob is lying).

Suddenly, all the people around were shocked by those words and quickly started a riot and started shouting swearing at jacob.

The judge looked calmly at jacob and started banging his gavel on the table while shouting:

"Silence!"

Quickly the chatter began to subside and the judge hurriedly asked another question:

"What is your name?"

Jacob who was shocked by the whole situation quickly answered trying to make the judge believe:

"I am telling the truth, my name is Jacob voss! This mage must be lying!"

Again the commotion returned and quickly the judge would bang his gavel several times and call for silence.

After a while, finally the chatter passed and the judge said:

"There's no way the wizard could be lying, because to become a truth wizard, they make a pact that says they can't lie under any circumstances, or they die. But you know the strange thing? All humans know this information, except the demons... you know what I'm trying to say, don't you? So don't lie next time and answer me your real name."

Jacob's eyes widened in shock at that information and he thought:

'Why is everything going wrong? Did that guy put a curse on me? Or is this all just passing bad luck?'

Suddenly, pulling the out of his thoughts, the judge tapped the table with his gavel and asked him:

"What is your real name?"

Jacob heard the question and began to think about what to answer and quickly the answer came to his mind and he answered:

"I don't know, but I believe it is jacob voss."

The judge looked at the truth mage and again he said:

"Lie."

Before people could riot again, the judge began to speak loudly:

"Departing from the order that has been given, I as the judge of this court and trial, decree the defendant guilty! And I sentence him to death by hanging!"

The judge finished speaking and slammed the gavel on the table and quickly people started celebrating and some even started throwing tomatoes.

Jacob who had been taken aback by that result, quickly ran up to the judge to try to beg him to change the result, but was stopped by guards who appeared in front of him and quickly the guards began to surround Jacob and arrest him.

Jacob who was being held by several guards, took one last look at the judge and mentally said moments before he was noucated:

'Why?'

Analyzing the outcome from afar, Astrid spoke:

"I thought he would be executed right here ... but whatever."

Raphael looked at Astrid and asked:

"What if he really isn't a spy? In my world it was common for people to be convicted of crimes they didn't commit."

"Impossible he is not a spy, the truth mage tells the truth using a divine thing called magic and even if the mage was lying, we could only know if another truth mage analyzed this trial."

"Do you have another truth mage in the Kingdom?"

"Hm... there is one more, but he is not really a truth mage, he just knows how to use truth magic."

(Explanation: truth mage, ice mage etc... are all professions, someone could easily learn truth magic and learn ice magic and become an archer for example, and they wouldn't have to make a pact that says they can only tell the truth).

Curious about who it was, Raphael asked:

"Who?"

Calmly Astrid pointed to a man who had long brownish gray hair and wore silver armor and said:

"The commander of the troops and the commander of the special division against demons, Erick draco."

"Erick draco? Isn't he from the same family as the princesses? Wait... isn't he from the royal family?!"

Astrid smiled and replied:

"Yes, older brother of princess freya and princess Ingrid."

Brian looked at the commander who had a cold look on his face and reflected:

'What is he thinking?'
