Chapter 14 - Flying and Teleport Theories...

Theories, huh? Maybe I'll learn something new, after all. Ken walked to the back of the class while the primary teacher walks to the front of the board.

"First, we'll start by talking about some common theories that explain why we can't use spells such as flight or teleportation. The Argon-Flight theory states that flight is impossible for this generation due to the limited mana generation and capacity. It is said that it would constantly require thousands and thousands of mana to activate and remain in flight..."

Huh, really? I know I'm the Blue Devil, but I can fly just fine. Maybe my wishes don't follow the laws of this world? Though, I do create a magic circle when I fly. What did it look like? Oh, yeah! I believe it was a tri-circle.

A tri-circle is similar to a merge, but it's with three circles instead of two. The distinct advantage of merging circles is that it lessens the constant mana requirement, though it requires more mana to join the circles together.

If I remember correctly, my flight spell is a combination of wind, extra, and space. Since extra-type is the base circle, it's known as the Extra-wind-space-type magical circle. If you merge all the types, the name of the circle is going to get incredibly long...

"There is also the merging theory for flight magic. One mage had a thought that merging two circles might allow one to fly. He tried many different merges, but each failed. To this day, it is believed that merging isn't the answer."

Huh? Did that mage not try to merge more than one? Man, are these guys idiots... I raise my hands to give my input.

"Yes, Akuma?"

"Uh, yes. I have a question. Have anyone tried to merge more than two circles?"

The teacher froze as she thinks about how to answer my questions. Then, Ken begins talking.

"Yes; however, it was discovered that a tri-merge was not the answer either. There is a limit on how many merges we can do, and for elves, the limit is three. Humans and some other races can only do two at the most, while all the other races can do three.

"To merge magic circles, it requires a large amount of mana. It's theorized that the person with the highest mana could only activate the basis of a fourth merge, but would be drained out of mana so they couldn't cast any spells."

Hmm... I did ask for immense mana, so I guess it makes sense that I can do it, but, surprisingly, I'm the only one who can do higher merges. Wait, I only need a tri-merge to fly. Why can't they fly with a tri-merge?

"Having you tried an extra-wind-space-type magical circle? Wouldn't that be sufficient to fly?"

"Hmm... It might, but there is a big problem with that merge. The basis of a merge shows how much mana would be required for the initial creation. An extra-type basis requires an exponential amount of mana to merge with other types. Normally, no race would be able to create that type of magic circle."

After answering my question, Ken's voice changed.

"It's interesting, though. What makes you think that this type of circle would work?"

"It's simple... I believe that extra-type is merging ready since its magical code is free-flexed. This makes it easy to combine it with other types. Also, extra-type acts as a boaster. If it acts as the basis, then it can boast the magical powers of the different types.

"Space-type allows one to activate an anti-gravitation spell, and wind-type allows one to move with the help of the wind. With all of this combined, it should be possible to fly with the help of the extra-type."

Ken just blinked at this. The teacher went out of shock and tried to change the conversation.

"I-interesting... Well, let's move on to teleportation. The Argon-Teleport theory states that teleportation is possible; however, actual teleportation is far out of our reach. The teleportation that we can do is very limited and requires vast knowledge about space-type magic.

"Typically, the average mage would be unable to use any type of teleportation. Those who are knowledgeable about space-type magic, like Mr. Endo, can teleport about five meters in any direction. This is the limit for those specialists. The base space-type requirement requires an enormous amount of mana, and when the distance is five meters, the condition is about the max the specialist can hold.

"True teleportation is that that allows one to teleport anywhere the user wants. Some theorists say that true teleportation would only allow one to teleport to places they have been before since teleporting into the unknown would be impossible."

Interesting... I guess the people in this world can't teleport or fly. Well, they can teleport but only for five meters, which isn't that far. Again, I believe my teleportation spell is a tri-merge. My spell would be classified as an extra-space-space-type. I use two space-type circles for the spell, which I thought using more than one of the same type is standard. Now that I think about it, it might not be common...

The teacher faced my direction after she finished her explanation. I didn't want to share that tri-merge might allow one to teleport more efficient since it would take a long time to explain.

After the teacher noticed that I wasn't going to raise my hand, she resumes talking.

"Okay, that's going to be the end of this period. Lunch will begin in a minute. Mr. Endo will be your instructor during the training portion after lunch. We'll see you at the gym."

After she finishes talking, the bell rings, signaling that lunch is here. Everyone immediately got up and ran out to the cafeteria. The only students left were Tomo and me.

"Well, we better hurry Tomo."

She nods, and we both leave the room to get lunch. Once we got our food, I ask Tomo where we would be sitting.

"Umm... I usually... eat on... the roof."

"Then that's where we'll go!"

I made the declaration and followed Tomo to the roof. After 10 minutes of eating our food, a serious popped in my mind.

"Hey, Tomo... Why are you being feared by those in our class? Plus, some are even bullying or making fun of you."

This catches her off guard.

"Umm... Umm..."

She looks down while she tries to think of a way out or what to say.
