The Party

"When all is said and done you still haven't told me, why you are here? Why you want me to wield this Akrafena?"

Anansi gained a solemn look after hearing her question, "An evil has risen and as of now you are the only person who can stop it and save everyone

"Evil? Stop it… me? Ha-ha, yeah no, sorry but I'm just a lecturer that's it. I'm literally a cupcake away from fat, I am not physically, mentally or anyway capable of saving the world. So, I am sorry but you have the wrong person." Samantha handed the Akrafena back to Anansi.

"I can tell you I have made no mistake, I have travelled the world and seen many others but you… you are the only person capable of wielding this Akrafena. The only one capable of stopping this threat, this is your destiny, like your ancestor who came before you. To rise up and protect your people." Anansi tried to convince her.

"I'm sorry, but I'm not her" Samantha moved to open her front door, "It was… memorable, meeting you but if you don't mind. I need to clean up that mess" Samantha motioned to the cake which had fallen earlier, "as well as get to bed as I have a lot to do tomorrow, starting with buying a cake which i dropped because of you".

With a sigh, Anansi made his way out retrieving the sword to God knows where. Anansi came to a halt as he arrived at the threshold, turning to look Samantha in the eye, "I understand all this seems a bit overwhelming, but I urge to thinks thing over. It is after all only the fate of the world that is at stake here".

"And I'll say it again, find someone else because I'm not the person you're looking for", with those words Samantha closed the doors. Looking around at her home she still couldn't believe it she just had conversation with one of the most famous gods in West Africa if not the whole Africa.

Running her hand through her hair all she could do was let out a sigh.

The next morning;

Samantha awoke with a groan, "urgh, that was one weird dream" she muttered to herself as she got out of bed. Barely, awake she made her way to the kitchen and poured herself a glass of water now fully awake she began moving around her home when she laid eyes on the mess on the living room floor.

With the mess before her, memories of what had transpired the night before came flooding in, "oh sh*t" Samantha cursed as she felt a migraine coming on.

"Sam, you made it" Gloria spoke with a bright smile as she saw Samantha arrive before her with cake at hand. "Of course, I did, I told you I would be here and here I am" Samantha said as they shared a hug, "okay so the cake goes there" Gloria pointed to where the cake should go after breaking from the hug.

Samantha moved to place the cake which she was lucky to get that morning, where Gloria told her to put it, as Gloria continued to organize the others to make sure everything was perfect.

The party was soon in full swing with the arrival of the birthday boy himself, the sounds of music as well as the laughter and conversations of the guests filled the venue. "Nice party" a voice startled Samantha who was observing everything and causing her to spill her drink.

Turning to the source she saw the one man she did not want to see, "Anansi" the god was dressed in the exact same outfit she saw him in last night, "you seem so surprised to see me which is weird, don't you know you are never more than three feet away from a spider" Anansi spoke as he took a sip from is glass.

"I'm pretty sure that saying refers to actual spiders and not spider gods" Samantha spoke as she turned to face the crowd giving a smile to Elvis as they shared a look. "Tomato, tomato. Ooh looks like he likes you."

"What? Elvis? No, pretty sure he likes Gloria and she, him. Wait why am I even talking about this with you."

"I'm a good listener, fun to talk to"

"What are you even doing here? I thought I told you no last night."

"You did... but it took me so long to find you, you can't expect me to give up so easily now can you." Anansi's words caused Samantha to him only to see that smirk on his face, "I told you I am no warrior and definitely not some hero".

"No hero was born one, they were all born from circumstances" Anansi countered, "besides that is not the only reason I am here". "Why else are you here?" Samantha asked as her curiosity reached all new heights, "It's only a matter of time before they find you" Anansi's voice took a solemn tone as he uttered those words.

"They? Who is they?" Samantha questioned taking note in the shift of tone from the god before her. "They, refers to the evil I was talking about, they've been searching for you just as long as I perhaps even longer."

"Why?"

"Because they know you are the only one capable of stopping them and would do anything to get rid of you."

"I've said this before and I'll say it again you have the wrong person" with those words Samantha gulped down the rest of her drink before disappearing into the crowd leaving Anansi standing there alone.
