Chapter 2

Adelaide could hear her tutor reprimanding her for unlocking her full potential. If her teacher had paid any attention to her, she'd know that Adelaide didn't care for rules such as these.

"Lady Adelaide Maurin! Are you paying attention to my words?" her teacher snapped. "No, I'm not. Why should I pay attention to pointless rules?"

"Just because you are the Duchess' daughter doesn't mean that you are above consequences."

"At least I'm standing up for my rights."

"I see how it is. Go sit on one of those chairs and observe how everyone does for the rest of the lesson," she instructed. "Anything to not hear you speak," Adelaide retorted, doing as told.

Thankfully, her instructor didn't say anything more. Adelaide hated it when there were pointless rules such as these. They just didn't want anyone overpowering the establishment.

Too bad for them, Adelaide would do so. She couldn't wait to see those mortified looks on their faces after being caught in the act.

It brought her joy and thrill, knowing they would pay for their actions.

Revenge and justice were necessary most of the time.

Filippa didn't like it when her friend got into trouble. She felt even more terrible for not standing up for her. Adelaide was her only friend, after all. Much like Adelaide, she hated that they were treated poorly and unfairly.

She didn't have too much time to dwell, however, since her opponent had been chosen. Upon closer inspection, she realized it was Adelaide's brother.

He was fair-colored and a raven-head who wore a cerulean turtleneck, borderline by silver, velvet-red shorts, and jet-black shoes.

Filippa was worried because she could harm him severely. But then she decided that he wouldn't be placed to spar with her if he wasn't capable.

Not that her nerves had calmed at all.

The raven-head was unsure if he could beat his opponent at first. It was then that he realized that they would be evenly matched, considering they were opposites.

After all, she had the Creation Mana, and he had the Destruction Mana.

"I suppose it is time for us to start. Shall we, Lady Filippa Alaric?" he inquired, grasping his rival's attention. "We shall, Lord Leoric Maurin."

Leoric nodded before he opened his palm and threw anelaces her way. Filippa took out her quill and threw some ink over all daggers before spilling a huge amount of it on the floor.

As Leoric readied his next attack, Filippa did the unthinkable. She ran towards the blot and jumped into it. This action left the spectators bewildered, and Leoric was no exception.

He felt someone shove him harshly, and he just barely managed to prevent himself from tumbling onto the ground. He turned around to be met with his sister and a smirking Filippa watching the two.

Leoric growled, summoning his sword and swinging it at Adelaide. Adelaide simply smiled, making Leoric double over due to the sheer amount of pain.

He couldn't move for a good while, his mind being surrounded by pessimistic thoughts.

"The winner is -"

Leoric immediately vanished, leaving behind a bunch of sparks.

He didn't realize this earlier, but this creation was not his sister.

He appeared behind the creation, cutting it in half as it altered into messy stains. He then turned around to meet Filippa's eyes. She showed no signs of frustration or fear, but rather, boredom.

She opened her palms and shot blots of ink while he threw baselards to cancel the attack. Leoric appeared in front of her and put the sword at her neck while she grabbed the collar of his turtleneck, raising her fist.

"This match has resulted in a draw. Good job, you two," the teacher informed before dismissing them.

Leoric was incredibly happy that he had managed not to lose. And because he did not, he had some time to himself. He was thinking of paying for some fruit juice to replenish his energy.
