Chapter 21. The day's agenda

Joshua Lim's assistant walked to the front desk and immediately displayed the agenda for the day on the screen as instructed by the MD. Everyone looked at the agenda and some waited for others to air they opinion while some were aching to give theirs.

Leilani looked at the topic of the agenda with a calm spirit. She was fighting to air her opinion neither was she reluctant to give it. She was just there observing the whole thing.

Mr Lim cleared his throat and began. "The main agenda is about the lead actors and actresses. We have two female leads rre and we have to choose which one we are going to work with".

He observed their expressions and continued. "We have Jennie Matt and Jackie Lei. They're two top actresses but we know they have different ranks".

Most of the members went for Jennie Matt as she was more popular than Jackie Lei. Jennie has won so many Grammys and received so many national honors. They saw her as one who would complement EssDee very well.

Leilani watched as all of them cast in their votes for Jennie. It was just a few members who didn't vote for her. She was the only one who hadn't said a word on the matter.

Mr Lim looked at her and urged her to air her opinion. His heart was beating at which one she would choose.

"Jackie Lei. I go with Jackie Lei", she announced. The members who had chosen Jennie frowned. Why would she choose Jackie? Why not Jennie?

Mr Lim smiled when he heard her reply. He expected her to choose Jennie like the others but as usual, she was always I'm for a surprise.

"Why Jackie and not Jennie?", a member of the board asked.

"The answer is quite clear. Jennie is popular. Way more than Jackie", she replied.

The members arched a brow. Even the ones who had chosen Jackie were also confused at her response. Mr Lim was the only who was smiling at her reply. The young lady did not cease to amaze him.

"Miss Zhang, can you explain more?", another member asked.

Leilani sighed and stood. She walked to the assistant and took the red pointer from her and began. "Jennie doesn't need this. She won't even have the chance because she's busy with two movies and three variety shows now. How do you expect a positive output from someone who's already exhausted? Jackie on her own part isn't busy. The last time she aired in a movie was in the past two years and she has only been on variety shows. And looking at her physical features, she's going to deliver the outlook for the costumes and will reflect the role she's going to play", she explained.

"But Miss Zhang, you should know that no one refuses an offer from EssDee. You're an example", a man said to her. He was the sales manager of the automobile wing.

Leilani smiled and replied, "You do not lie but on my part, I'm quite free. And I have a lot of branches that could help with the work but Miss Matt? She's the only Miss Matt you'd ever find. She won't refuse the offer but I assure you, she won't deliver the work very well. She's already put her strength into the two movies and three variety shows she's working on now, what makes you think she'll say yes to this offer?"

"Because this is EssDee Corp", a lady replied.

"That's true. She might even give up the other shows for EssDee but what does that make her? An what does that make EssDee? Stocks will plummet if she takes on that role. EssDee has always been at the top, it won't be good to let it crawl because of our silly mistakes", she concluded.

Mr Lim smiled gratefully at her and James his hands together for her in a series of applause followed by other members of the board.

When the clap died down, Mr Lim announced, "Now, you're fully a member of the EssDee board of directors. You passed the test!".

Leilani's eyes widened and her mouth became as big as saucers. What the hell?! Gosh! She buried her face into her hands and calmed herself down. So it was all a test! What if...

Her admiration for EssDee increased.

"We already decided that Jackie Lei would be the lead actress in this movie and we expected that you see that and also see that she meets all the requirements both in the acting and in the costumes. And Miss Zhang, you didn't let our expectations crumble", Mr Lim commended.

"I... I'm quite speechless sir", she muttered.

"It's okay. You're welcomed to the board", Mr Lim said once more.

The meeting finally came to an end and Leilani made way to her office. She met Rachel on the way who gave a surprising news. The mayor was at Royale at the moment and she needed to make an appearance.

"Send word to the MD for me", she said.

"Yes Miss", Rachel replied and set her feet in motion towards the MD's office.
