Chapter 40

3rd person Pov:

Inside a room of a large mansion. Five adults and one child were currently present with different expressions. Noah and Joseph had expressions of disbelief. Carla had a complicated expression as if not sure what to feel about it. Jacob was also in disbelief for a moment but then, what had happened did not concern him, so his expression was somewhat neutral. Michael, with his back toward everyone else in the room, had a cold expression on his face. But who had the weirdest expression was Ben, the second priest.

He could not understand what was happening. 'How could his luck be so good?' It was a parasitic demon that was mixed in the mana inside the crystal. The plan was to enter the parasite along with the corrupted mana inside the crystal. But the boy was safe from it because he could not awaken. He could not use mana. Ben did not know the purpose for wanting Michael dead, but he was told that the boy needed to be killed for the Goddess Astoria and that was enough for him. But he had not expected this. 'I must report back immediately. This boy is an anomaly disliked by mana. We need to kill him.'

"I am sorry to inform you Sir Noah, but it seems that your grandson is incapable of wielding mana. Though it is rare, there are cases of this happening before. It is just unfortunate." After a brief silence, it was Jacob who broke the bad news to the family and bring them out of their stupor.

"I see. Thank you to the Holy priest for coming. We would appreciate it if you do not spread this news." And it was Carla who replied. Though Noah and Joseph were still shocked, they were still in disbelief. They wanted to yell at the priest, blame the crystal, and ask him to change the crystal but it was Carla who spoke before anyone else and dismissed the priests, so they had no choice but to swallow their words.

"Understood. Then we will take our leave. Please excuse us. Let's go, Ben." Jacob bowed in a brief parting greeting and left along with the other priest. Noah and Joseph chose not to say anything. Though they had no problem with Michael not being able to wield mana, they did not know how Carla would be feeling right now. Carla also did not say anything to the men and walked toward Michael who was still standing near the crystal. She could not imagine how disappointed Michael would be feeling right now so she thought of cheering him up by spending time with him. "Michael let's go. Let us eat something delicious together."

"Mother. I want to go to my room. Let us do that tomorrow." Michael said in a low voice but enough for everyone to hear. Everyone immediately understood that Michael wanted to be alone after this and cope with this news. They wanted to refuse but, in the end, they allowed him to do as he wished.

But they were wrong. The low voice was not from sadness but from anger. Michael needed to be alone not to cry but to take care of the one who had harmed him.

1st person Pov:

Currently, I do not possess a skill that can kill him. And I also cannot kill him with direct confrontation. His level is 31 while my level is only 10. I don't stand a chance in a direct fight. Also killing him would be a waste. I need to know who put him up to this. It did not look like he knew why he was ordered to kill me. He was just following orders. I need to know the reason, but I can't find that from him. I also cannot follow him all the way back to the Church.

But luckily, this world is not like Kunlun. here exist items for such tasks. And my shop might have some useful items for me. for now, I will chase after them and check the items in the Shop. If a useful item shows up, I will plan according to that. And thinking this I opened my bedroom window. This will be my first time going out of this mansion and into the city. Only I am not going out to sightsee but to ensure a long life.

3rd person Pov:

"How could a follower of the Church indulge himself in worldly desires? And a brothel at that. How could he visit such an unholy place? I need to return and inform the esteemed cardinal about the failure that happened today." Ben said out loud while walking through a street in the capital of Revstein duchy, Full-Moon city. The awakening ceremony of Michael von Revstein was brief. Usually, awakening ceremonies take a long time. About half a day to a full day but they were done with the ceremony in just an hour so they had a whole lot of free time on their hands.

Ben wanted to return to the Church but Jacob as his superior ordered him to sightsee while he attends to some important business. Even though Ben knew what the 'important business' was, he could not defy an order from the direct superior, so he had no choice but to make his way to the local church and pray until Jacob is finished with his business.

While walking, suddenly he felt someone's gaze on him. He immediately turned his head in the direction from which he felt someone watching him but there was no one there. 'Was I mistaken? I definitely felt like someone was watching me. I think I am a little tired. I should head to the local church and rest for some time.'

"Are you a messenger of the god?" he heard someone say. He lowered his head and saw a small boy looking at him with sparkles in his eyes. He smiled and replied, "No, but I serve the messenger of god." When he said no, the boy's expression became downcast but after hearing the latter part of his sentence the boy's expression became lively again. The boy asked again, "Is it true that he punishes evil and is benevolent to everyone?"

Ben again smiled at the innocent questions of the boy. "Yes, he does. Not only he, but we all punish evil."

The boy became even happier at that. "You too?" he asked. "Yes," Ben replied to the boy while chuckling. Then the boy handed him a piece of bread. "Then please accept this Mr. Evil punisher and hunt a lot of bad people. I will also become just like you in the future." Ben chuckled at the boy's claims and accepted the bread with thanks. The boy left after handing him the bread and Ben started walking toward the Church while munching on the bread thinking, 'What a cute boy. May the Goddess bless him.'
