Chapter 23 Wonders

Walking to the carriage, the footman opened the door and I placed her gently within the carriage. Wondering when and how she had become so precious to me. I was still having a bit of trouble with this. However, I decided to see where it lead me. My mother had said that fate has plans not even father could change. The shop that was closed earlier was now open and in the window was a pair of shoes that would match perfectly with the dress that I had bought her. I signaled the coachman to stop, and I carried her into the shop. Her face had turned a lovely shade of red at being carried around. The bell tinkled gently as we entered the store. I sat her in a chair and walked up to the counter.

The elderly gentleman turned and asked what he could do for me. I replied that my fiancé was in need of a ready made pair of shoes and asked if the ones that were in the window were for sale. He walked over to her and measured her feet. He grabbed the pair of shoes from the window and put them on her feet. She said that they were a good fit. She got up and walked around and said she wanted them. I followed him back to the counter and paid for them.
