"Mr. Haruno, I thought you'd be in the bathroom for the entire class."
"I'll be more careful next time, Mrs. Brenna."
As Kaito Haruno returned to the classroom from the restroom, Mrs. Brenna, the teacher, furrowed her brow and addressed him. He simply nodded in response and took his seat. He had already experienced a lot that day and didn't feel like explaining why he had gone to the bathroom. Fortunately, his strong spoken English skills, honed during his university years, allowed him to communicate even in an English-speaking country; otherwise, it would have been embarrassing to arrive in this new world without knowing a single word.
"Hey, Kaito, why were you in the bathroom for so long? Are you feeling okay?" Kaito felt a gentle poke on his back and turned to find Kara Danvers, the girl sitting behind him, looking at him with concern.
"Uh, I might have eaten something bad last night," he replied casually, not bothering to turn around. He was aware of the girl's name due to the memories he inherited with this body. Kara Danvers was a cheerful girl who attended Mid-City High School with her sister, Emil Danvers. Though she was adopted and not biologically related to Emil, the Danvers family treated her as one of their own.
Kaito pondered what he should do next and suddenly sat up straight, realizing something crucial. This was National City, and Kara Danvers was Supergirl?! He was sitting behind a girl who was apparently one of the most powerful beings in the DC Universe, the cousin of Superman!
**"No way, how lucky can I get? I'm actually in high school with Supergirl! This is insane!"** Kaito, being quite knowledgeable about American comics, had watched various series and movies, and now it hit him that he had arrived in a city ruled by Supergirl, who would later become its protector.
The thought left Kaito wondering, **"Is it too late to transfer schools?"** He had just crossed into this new life and was about to face a challenge that might be on par with a hellish quest. How could he survive high school with someone as formidable as Supergirl?
Kara sensed something was off with Kaito, who was sitting in front of her. She only wanted to show concern as a classmate, but she could hear his heart racing, and according to her sister, boys' heart rates quicken when they're around someone they like. This thought made Kara blush.
If Kaito knew what was going through Kara's mind, he would've shouted, **"Sorry to interrupt! I'm transferring now!"** He had no intention of flirting with Supergirl; he just wanted to survive high school. With his current abilities, he wasn't sure he could take on the strongest hero, Batman, let alone Supergirl. He only wished to make it through high school without drawing too much attention to himself.
For the rest of the day, Kaito felt on edge. How could he concentrate when Supergirl was sitting right behind him? He worried about what might happen if a truck suddenly crashed through the classroom wall while they were in class. In a city filled with Kryptonians, anything was possible. His safety was his top priority.
Meanwhile, Kara was oblivious to Kaito's racing heart, which remained at 145 beats per minute throughout the day. As a girl in her prime, she had extraordinary abilities but was still just a regular girl. Discovering that she had an admirer was both flattering and confusing for her.
"Kaito, um, I think your house is at 56 Center Street, right? Want to walk home together?" Kara summoned the courage to invite him as they reached the school gate after classes.
Seeing Kaito jump and take off like a sprinter at a track meet left her feeling deflated. Meanwhile, Emil, her sister, was exiting her own classroom and witnessed Kaito's hasty retreat.
"Kara, did you scare him off again?" Emil asked, knowing her sister all too well.
"No! I just wanted to invite him home. Our houses are on the same street!" Kara replied, feeling misunderstood. It was just an invitation; was it necessary for him to run away so quickly?
"Are you sure you didn't scare him?" Emil pressed.
"Ugh, why are you even asking? Let's go!" Kara retorted, flustered by her sister's persistence, and walked out of the school, with Emil shaking her head in amusement as she followed.
Kaito had already sprinted a good distance away and glanced back at the school, which was now just a blurry outline. He let out a sigh of relief. What a nightmare! Riding home with Supergirl? That would lead to all sorts of problems. He was still a novice in this world, barely getting his bearings. He definitely didn't want to risk his life sharing a ride with someone that powerful. Using the memories of this body, he found his way to what he now called home.
It was a nice two-story villa. Kaito felt a mix of emotions as he stood before it. He had taken over someone else's life and was now living in a place that felt unfamiliar. After hesitating at the door for a while, he finally fished out the keys and opened the door.
"Welcome back, Kaito! Dinner will be ready soon, so wash your hands!" A middle-aged woman greeted him warmly, speaking the familiar language that Kaito had grown accustomed to.
"I... I'm not really hungry right now. I'm a bit tired and just want to lie down for a bit," Kaito replied, addressing the woman, who was his mother in this life, with the name Qiu Yun. Looking at her loving expression made it hard for him to call her "Mom," as he felt he was no longer the original soul in this body. Not wanting to dismiss her kindness, he made a quick excuse and went upstairs, tossing his backpack aside and collapsing onto his bed, wanting to escape the day's overwhelming experiences through sleep.
Qiu Yun didn't question her son's unusual behavior; instead, she let him rest, saying she'd call him down for dinner when it was ready. Kaito lay in bed, unable to sleep, and instead closed his eyes, reviewing the memories of the G3 armor from Kamen Rider and the three-color energy training methods stored in his mind.
The G3 armor was developed for combating monsters, designed by the police in the Heisei era's Kamen Rider Agito. It was heavy and burdensome for the wearer, sacrificing agility for increased defense and firepower.
As he visualized the blue, high-tech G3 armor in his mind, he quietly whispered "Transform." In an instant, he felt the weight of the armor manifest on his body. **"So it really works by will alone."**
Feeling the solid armor around him, Kaito confirmed his suspicions. Due to his modified physiology, the weight that would burden an average person felt only slightly heavy to him, not significantly impacting his agility.
Gazing into the dressing mirror, he reveled in the sense of power the G3 armor provided. **"Hmm, enhanced jumping ability, and it comes with a gun? Wait, it can auto-reload? Takes five minutes?"** The information about the G3 armor appeared in his mind naturally after he donned it.
The G3 armor was equipped with a special knife and a customized handgun that held 30 rounds, requiring five minutes to reload after use. It could withstand blows of up to ten tons. If it sustained damage beyond that threshold, it would automatically return to the system space for repairs, which would require points.
After understanding the armor's capabilities, Kaito summoned it back into his consciousness.
"It seems like I'll have to focus on mastering the G3 armor and the three-color energy techniques for now. I hope the first mission from the system isn't too challenging."
Muttering to himself, Kaito realized that to survive in this DC world filled with powerful beings, he needed to complete the tasks set by the system. While the three-color techniques had great potential, they required time. For now, he would rely on the G3 armor to provide him with a sense of security. He just hoped the system wouldn't be too harsh on him.
With a sigh, he felt his stomach rumble in protest. Laughing softly at himself, he finally decided to head downstairs for dinner.
