Chapter 32

A shiver of panic ran through my body that made me shudder, and for a moment, my heart stopped beating. Then it started beating so fast that I thought it would throw out of my chest. Was it ever possible for such a thing to have happened? How likely did a coincidence like this occur? I believed very few, and yet it happened. I can't believe our misfortune. And I think the Captain would never make up such a thing. For what reason? He had believed us; if he didn't, he wouldn't take us on his boat from the beginning. He has a lot more critical things to do than engage himself with Brielle and me.

My handfuls sweated, and I wiped them discreetly on my skirt.

A flash made my mind lit up. That was the reason the Captain avoided me. He discovered our lie and got angry with us. And he was right. So, he stopped dealing with a liar.
