30. The art of Defensive warfare

the sun is rising, soldier are waking up, the citizen also look at the new day with fright knowing of the incoming battle

a Guy with full black armor standing in one of the tower in the South wall looking at the horizon waiting for his enemy

as he thinking about the thousand of possibilities that may or may not happens in his head for the Chu attack, slowly he see sea of man starting to appear like a wave of calamity

300k thousand man of Chu has been gathered to take the one checkpoints before Qin land, and between them only Lingxu with 100k thousand soldiers with some of them are even basic militia or some soldier that only have been trained for less than a month

around 9 in the morning the whole army of Chu has arrived and already making formation to do their siege, Lingxu also saw 6 battle ready Siege Tower that are being moved around

"Sire, 100k man are ready to attack from the east side wall as you ordered, the enemy on the wall are seen to be the Heilong Army led by Long Lingxu of Qin" said the scout to the commander of Chu army

"Yue, I am not versed in defensive strategy, so you will took command, you will lead the entire soldier that defend the East wall while I am to fight with the man on the South" ordered Lingxu as he grabs his glaive

Yue nodded her head and see lingxu go with 2 man ready to defend the South wall and making her lead the East wall

"Archer, Let loose" shout Lingxu as he made his way in

"Lord!! why are you here" asked Juton in surprise as he were the one supposed to defend the South wall

"How can I be your General if I only sit my self down on the safe place while you guys are fighting for your life with the enemy" said Lingxu assure Juton that all matter are handled

as He was saying that Chu soldier are starting to climb up the wall, some of them are shot down by an arrow but many managed to slip and ready to kill who ever defending

Lingxu saw 1 soldier managed to climb and slicing the man using an downward swing slicing droping down

"Bring the pot" said Lingxu while 5 soldier with some gap throws 5 pot filled with oil to the swarm of Soldier down below

"what is?" said one soldier below who got wet with some liquid that the enemy shower him with

by that moment 3 archer with a flaming arrow comes and shot into the ground 2 are hitting the soldier with wet body with oil

instantly a raging flames erupt down below burning the enemy along with their ladder, at the same time one the East side Yue also ordered the same thing also burning the enemy down below

the scene make the Chu soldier face turned grim looking their ally burned into crisp infront of their eyes, some have rage in their face some are frightened

but one thing for sure the Enemy commander face turned grim knowing the enemy is not as surprised as he thought they would be and they already come prepared in some way

while the Chu army try to put out the fire infront and successfull on doing so they start to climb the wall once again, the same scene happen 2 more times but the Chu learning that everytime the soldier are wet with oil they would instantly run back afraid of gettinf burned

but even so it manage to but the Qin soldier defending some time slowing down the Chu siege, in no time the sky turned dark and the Chu retreats waiting for a new day

"Go and try to salvage some arrow that you can get, start to patch up and ready the man for the next day" said Lingxu while bandaging his arm which got cut by some stray swing from the enemy soldier

at night the soldier who watches the wall are tense ready for any night attack if there are any

"we lost 2k man and 1k are injured, while at it we estimate and locate around 18k enemy are slain" report Yue

"the casualty are sure looking good, even so we were already out numbered and even with the fact that the Chu army seems like an army with only training and no experience their number is really frightening" said Juton hearing the report from Yue

"we will defend as long as we can, Order some man to send word for more supply from the nearby city" ordered Lingxu hoping to hold the siege as long as they can or even repel them if he can

but the plan were to hold out until the sanyou campaign are finished and they will go and help out to repel the enemy after it

Lingxu know this and he also hope that they able to repel the enemy even before that, by this time the Chu has sent man to try cut of the Qin supply line wanting to starve the soldier to death or maybe strain their defensive weapon to make it easier for them to attack the city

but unknown to all, Lingxu has already predict that, and has place numerous assasins on the North area that San trained after receiving the order from Lingxu 9 month ago

with supply line secured for the time being, The siege would continue as long as Lingxu still able to hold the swarm of the enemy day after day, and its not like the Chu also have unlimited supply

by the information that Lingxu got, Chu can only hold out for at most 1 month before the morale or maybe the supply would be too much just to get one city from Qin

so Lingxu hopped to hold out until 2 weeks "Day 1 and we already have 1k casualty, aah.. war is really annoying, I hoped I can just be a merchant with no worries" said Lingxu alone in his study
