With Celinda on her lap, Selina drifted off to deep slumber. After a massive migraine and heart wrenching night, her energy was all drained. When she woke up, Celinda was already gone from the bed. She realized she was sleeping on a pillow with the blanket covering over her body.
"Celinda?" She called out to see if she would receive any responses. Hopping out of bed, she took a quick look in the bathroom and closet to make sure nobody was there. Before heading to look for her, Selina quickly washed her face and brushed her teeth.
Slipping her feet into her slippers, she walked out of her room and wondered if she was with Jason. If they are together, she won't interrupt their conversation.
"Hmmm..." Suddenly, she heard movement from the kitchen area. She walked down a few steps until she could peek at who it was in the kitchen. Then, she realized Jason was making breakfast while Celinda was sitting at the dining table. Neither of them was speaking. The atmosphere seemed very calm too.
Unable to read the situation in front of her, she approached the quiet zone at her regular pace. Raising her head, Celinda's straight face broke into a dazzling smile. She spread her arms and hugged Selina. "You're awake! Good morning! Thank you for taking care of me last night."
Selina breathed a sigh of relief when she saw her smile. Compared to last night, she was in a much better mentality. "No problem. Have you eaten yet?"
She shook her head in response and pointed to her brother. "My brother is trying to starve me to death. I wanted a simple breakfast, but he insists on making congee! I only wanted two eggs and a toast."
Pouting pitifully, she complained to Selina in a childish way. Selina let out a small chuckle and rolled up her sleeves. "Then I'll add two eggs in the congee for you to eat. If not, I'll make it separately for you to eat alongside the congee. Your stomach might not be strong enough to digest heavy food, so your brother is strictly caring for you."
Celinda sighed, "Aiya. Seems like I've lost to the both of you. Fine. Fine~ I'll sit here and wait for food then."
Seeing her fold up her sleeves, Jason said. "I'm almost done here. I'll make the eggs for her. You two sit and continue your conversation."
Selina didn't catch the curve on Jason's lips when she defended his choice just now. As he stirred the pot of congee, he looked at how his sister and Selina got along. Smiling, he thought about how great the liveliness was with two of his favorite people waiting for food. It's also been a while since he heard Celinda's laughter and carefree randomness.
Since he made breakfast, Selina arranged the table for breakfast. In the middle of tasting the congee, Celinda's eyes became irritably red. She missed his cooking and this feeling she called home. Suddenly, she saw an egg appear in her bowl.
She looked up and met Jason's doting smile. "The egg you wanted." A drip of tears escaped the corner of her eyes.
Wiping it away with a napkin, she let out a soft laugh. "It's the pepper."
Selina smiled, nodded and continued eating her breakfast. There was no pepper on the table. Out of nowhere, she saw a sausage placed in her bowl. Looking up, she met Jason's gaze. "You need more nutrition for breakfast."
"Thanks."
After breakfast was finished, Celinda broke the awkward silence. "Brother, I want to get a divorce."
"Mm. The papers are already ready for you to sign. Don't worry about anything. I'll handle it." He replied as if he knew she would bring the topic of ending her marriage on the table.
"But..mom and dad's side.." Her voice trailed off as her words got stuck in her throat. She didn't know how to break this news to them. Even though her marriage ceremony was simple and only close family members attended; she still remembered how happy her parents looked.
"Don't worry. I won't say anything until you're ready to tell them. If you want me to be there with you when you tell them about it, then we can have a family dinner. Mom and dad will always put your happiness first. Don't force yourself to be with someone who isn't compatible. He isn't worth your time." Jason gathered the bowls and stood up to head to the sink.
Celinda rubbed her thumbs together nervously as various thoughts strangled her brain. Suddenly, she felt Selina's hands patting her back. She turned her attention towards the petite girl who had a radiant smile on her face as if she was telling her everything is okay.
Selina whispered, "Go over and tell him what you want to say."
Nodding, Celinda stretched her legs and walked towards the sink. "Brother.." She called out.
"Hmm?" His voice was as gentle as he always when he spoke to her.
"I'm sorry.." She lowered her head, apologizing for her past mistakes.
"What did you do wrong? I don't remember anything. Anyways, you're my little sister. No matter what you do, I'll always clean up after you. Sorry doesn't exist between us. We're family." He turned off the water, wiped his hands and spread his arms.
Smiling at her, he asked. "What? Haven't hugged your brother for so long that you forgot how to give one? Or you think brother is getting old and don't need me anymore?" He jokingly laughed as he pinched her cheeks lightly.
Wrapping her arms around him, she held back her tears. "Che! You've slacked off on exercising, didn't you? Even if you get old, you better maintain your muscles or your wife will run off. Don't say I didn't warn you."
With his hands lightly patting her head, he chuckled. "No need for you to worry about that. If I could make her my wife, then I won't let her go. Whereas, you! If you would have me worry less, then maybe I'll find a wife much earlier."
"Lies! When I try introducing girls to you, you'll end up rejecting or ditching the date. Then, I finally see you having some females trying to get your attention, but you play blind. This heart of yours is definitely millions of years older than the roots of a tree! Sheesh, who is making whom worry?" She placed her hands on her hips.
"Oh? How come I didn't notice they were girls? Besides, I've been working hard to support your meals." He rubbed the tip of his nose and acted as if he was innocent.
"Selina! You heard him! Wahhhh, he called me fat! He said he was single cause he needs to earn money to support my meals! Take a good look at this side of him. When you look for husbands, find one who~ mmphh"
His hand covered her mouth, muffling her words. "Shhh!! You're disrupting our neighbors."
"We have no neighbors!" She pulled his hands away and smirked.
"Pffft hahahaha. You two are too funny. So nice to have a great sibling relationship. Hehe." Selina laughed while holding her stomach at their interactions. Somewhere inside of her, an unexplainable emptiness spread across her chest. It felt as if she was missing something.
Skipping her way to Selina's side, Celinda hid behind her and asked. "Then, what do you think about my brother as husband material?"
Eyeing Jason from head to toe, she rubbed her chin and considered her question. "Hmmm..."
Hearing her extended response, he felt his palms getting sweaty.
"Hmmm...I think he is good." She smiled at his direction. Celinda wrapped her arms around Selina's shoulder from behind and smiled.
"Right? Right? This radish is quite dashing. Considering he could do house chores better than me; I'll sell him to you for free. What do you think?" Celinda offered with her hands spread towards Jason's direction.
Nodding along as a joke, Selina answered. "Mm...I'll take him. But aren't you losing in profit then? How could he be for free?"
"Of course not! Think about it. If you take my brother, then he will belong to you. Then naturally, whatever that's his is yours! Since I sold him to you for free and I'm his sister, I formed a great relation with you. It's a win win~" She shook Selina's hands to complete the transaction.
After humming for a while, Selina stood up from her seat and walked towards Jason. Blinking at him with curious eyes, she asked. "If what belongs to him becomes mine...then what about what I own?"
Jason cleared his throat and answered. "Still yours."
Laughing softly at the way this sibling pair's playful nature, she took his hand in her and nodded. "Alright. Then you're mine from this second onwards."
"Congratulations! You've claimed Jason Hui." Celinda clapped and gave her brother a side wink. Although it was a joke, Selina's responses revealed her thoughts about Jason.
