Chapter 65 A new council member.

The debriefing was underway and it wasn't proceeding in a calm atmosphere.

 -Admiral what the hell happened out there?

One of the council members asked.

-We arrived in the empire space without any incident.

Envoy Sato and myself went down to the planet with our escorts and everything was going according to plan.

The duel happened but there was an explosion so I wasn't able to finish off my adversary.

It turned out that the Empire was attacked by an unknown fleet so I ordered my ships to aid the Elani fleet in the defense of the capital world.

The enemy fleet numbered over a thousand ships of various classes and we were able to destroy over 85% of the enemy space forces and a 100% of their ground forces on the surface of the planet.

My fleet suffered casualties in this battle,we lost three ships and eight more were seriously damaged.

Over all My fleet lost 137 crewmen dead and 210 injured.

As per protocol we searched for the deceased and found 101 of them; the rest were lost in space so I gave the order to activate the self-destruct on their armors to prevent the enemy from reverse engineering our technology.

When one of my scouts informed me about the enemy actions on conquered colonies and the fleet of over five thousand mobilizing to wipe us out.

I suggested an evacuation to the empress and she agreed with me.

We used any ship capable of FTL to evacuate the capital world and the two remaining colonies as there was no chance for us to defend against a fleet that big.

We left all of our mines and some probes with subspace transmitters to gather intelligence on the enemy.

When we evacuated everyone that didn't want to stay we jumped out of the system.

The defense of the Elani home world is being reviewed right now by the analysts and will be ready to present as evidence within 24 hours.

That is all.

As Simon finished his report the council members were shocked at what had happened.

-Do we know who attacked and why?

The chairman asked.

-Unfortunately we don't know who attacked the Elani but after watching the video feeds from my security team who fought them on the ground we found out that there were at least five different kinds of alien soldiers on the battlefield.

We also discovered that the prime minister of the Elani boarded a federation ambassador ship along with his family while the attack was taking place.

Athena's analysis of the enemy weapons and shields showed its similarity to the Federation technology but unfortunately there is no proof that connects this attack to the federation.

All we have is a suspicion and even if we had the proof there is nothing we can do at this time.

Our fleets are simply too weak to challenge the federation for now.

-Do we have a chance to defend, if the fleet that destroyed the Elani empire came here?

the council member asked.

-If they decide to come after us then we will probably lose our colonies but the Sol system has enough defenses to destroy that fleet however it would come at a great price.

Simonansvered.

-Is there a way to defeat them without losing most of our fleet?

The chairman asked.

-If they attacked right now then my estimate is that they would be wiped out but we would lose around 35 to 40% of our fleet and around 50 to 65 % of our defensive platforms and satellites.

The only way to decrease our losses would be to place a mine field around our system but that is impossible to do as we need to move around the system to gather resources.

The good news is that they didn't seem to want to follow us. The last transmissions from the probes indicate that they are focusing on the planets they just conquered.

-What can we do then to prepare ourselves in case they will attack in the future?

Another council member asked.

-We are already doing all we can do to get ready and as far as I am aware we have more crews than we have ships right now so all we really can do is wait and build more ships.

The Admiral said.

-And what about the Elani? What should we do with them?

The chairman asked.

-It's not my place to tell you what to do but you asked so i will give you my honest opinion.

We should invite them to join the council since they are colonizing a planet in our territory and also before the invasion the empress expressed her readiness to sign the geneva convention as well as negotiating the alliance with us.

Unfortunately we never got to that part but it is my opinion that we should at least offer them a seat on the council.

If we are lucky then we might have another race in the council and a great ally for the future.

Simon expressed his opinion and many of the council members approved of his view point.

-This is something to discuss with the empress in the future. For now let's get back to the topic of the enemy that took down the empire within a week's time.

The chairman said.

-I think that there is not much to add at this point.

The council member from Mars said.

-We are doing all that we can do for now and there is not much more we can do for now.

All of the council members agreed and Simon was dismissed.

The next thing on the agenda was the meeting with the Empress.

The council heeded the opinion of their Admiral and offered the empress a seat on the council which she accepted and also thanked them for taking her people in when they didn't even sign any agreements.

-Your majesty,Admiral Black informed us about your intention to be a signatory of the geneva convention and the intention of forming an alliance with the Terran council.

Taking those points into consideration your people and ours are allies even without any agreement signed and we would be useless allies if we left you alone in the hour of need.

The chairman said and all of the council members agreed.

-He said more or less the same thing to me when I asked him about it.

The empress said, smiling slightly for the first time since the invasion.

-That only confirms that we made a good choice to give him the position of an admiral despite his young age.

Believe it or not but he is the youngest admiral we had in the history of mankind.

This statement was a little shocking for Liara as she thought that it was normal for the humans to have admirals this young in their service as they had a lot less life span then the Elani.

Her people could live up to five hundred of their years which was around two hundred and fifty of the human years.

She herself was around a hundred and fifty of human years old and Alesia was a little over twenty in the human years.

-I'm sorry but I thought that it was a norm for you to have admirals this young.

She said with a bit of confusion which evoked a bit of laughter among the council.

-It's not a standard for our forces to have an admiral who is this young but in this case he earned the station several times over with his accomplishments.

And to be honest if he didn't unite all of earth's countries into the Terran council then he would probably have the title of marshal of the Polish army, which is the highest officers rank in our military that no one earned for almost a hundred years.

The Polish president said.

-Let's be clear, he would most likely hold the position of the highest military officer in most countries at this point.

 The Czech republic president said.

Liara was speechless once again hearing the praises her future son in law was getting from the council members.

She had to admit that Alesia picked an incredible man as her partner.

-We discussed a little of the topic here.

The chairman said with a smile on his face.

He also was a fan of rSimon and the rest of his friends but for now they had to quickly solve the issue of the Elani who would join the council as one of earth's colonies.

The negotiations didn't last long as the empress was more than happy to accept the terms the council presented to her.

She even thought at first that they were playing a joke at her.

The terms were straight forward.

The Elani would be accepted into the council space and the planet that the council gifted them would be considered a Terran colony with all the rights and privileges that came with it ,Including the protection of the Terran fleet.

They would receive a seat at the council but otherwise they were free to rule their territory as they pleased.

Their fleet would have a duty to find and eradicate any pirates in their vicinity or just call the humans to do it for them.

Elani empress had to sign the Geneva convention and her fleet had to defend the Terran space in time of need.

All in all the terms were quite favorable and terrans have even figured out the problem the Elani had with fertility and the simple answer was a technology called Invitro,that would boost the fertility rate amongst the Elani.
