CHAPTER THREE

Kendrick looked at Julie, admiring her beauty. He leaned forward and said.

"I've been looking for someone who will be my secretary, A trusted employee that can effectively meet my demands and I found no one, untill I remembered you. And I came to a final decision on who I want. I've chosen you for the task. To cut the long story short, I wanna give an offer."

He relaxed in his chair and placed his hand under his chin, observing Julie's reaction. She frowned a bit, her eyes fluttered in surprise, then she asked.

"Umm Sir, what offer?"

Ken smirked and said.

"I want you to work for me, personally."

His voice increases in a happy, almost dramatic tone as he says.

" Would you like to be my personal assistant? "

She doesn't respond. She looks around his office, as if avoiding the question. Ken continues.

"You leave everything down there and move upstairs to work for me."

Julie smiles, she saw this as a good idea.

" Salary increment is a good offer, it's what I need right now."

She taught to herself. But she wasn't sure, she didn't know whether to say yes or no. She didn't get a Tech degree in college to work as an assistant.

"But no, he's gonna increase my salary."

She argued with the voice in her head. Kendrick broke the short silence by asking.

" So, what do you think?

Do we have a deal?"

Julie was about to say 'No' but heard herself say

"Yes, yes we do."

"Great! So you'll start on Monday, and I'll tell you everything you need to know about my schedule."

He says, smiling. He leans backwards on his chair, looks at her and asks her, out of curiosity.

" How old are you?"

"Twenty Seven?"

Julie answered.

"Just about the same age with my formal assistant, Sonia Dobray, back then, when I newly started this company."

He says in a honest tone and a sincere look on his face.

Julie doesn't respond. she wondered why her boss was being this outspoken but she was happy he chose her out of the many female employees in the company.

"You Know, most people won't believe it took me ten years to build this company to become what it is today."

He says, smiling.

Julie had a strict look on his face, she felt obligated to laugh at his comment but she didn't smile, she didn't find it funny and she didn't find this information necessary to why she was here.

"And in those ten years, I barely had time for my family, I was too busy trying to become one of America's richest and most successful entrepreneur that it affected my Love life and the relationship I had with my ex wife."

Kendrick spoke with a sad look on his face.

"Now why is he telling me this?"

She wondered.

He looked down and smirked.

"I can't believe I just told you that."

He says while laughing, expecting her to laugh too.

Julie smiles for the first time.

" It feels good to know all this, your secret is safe with me. But I think, it's too much information for someone like me, I'm just your employee, not your therapist."

She says with a simple smile on her face.

" You'll soon be more."

He says in a low tone while smirking.

"Pardon?" She asked, unsure of what she heard him say.

"I said I believe you can do better when promoted to a higher level."

Ken says as he leaned forward.

"Oh, sure, yes I can."

Julie responded.

" Good, our discussion is over, the aim of our conversation has been realized, so you can go back to work."

He says as he opened his laptop.

" All right Sir."

Julie responds with a nod, she gets up and leaves the office, feeling unsure but positive, she thought to herself, other women like her colleagues will do anything to be close to the boss and be his favorite, so they could receive financial favours from him. because he was a very friendly and generous man.

Now this was an opportunity, one that they did not get. So turning it down wout be unwise .

The fact that her boss personally asked her to do this for him, only means that he values her services and appreciates her hard work .

Maybe this would be the promotion that will change her life for good. Though it isn't the promotion she wanted, cause she preferred to be the head and director of her department. But it seems like life has a different plan for her. She returned to her office and resumed her work. When the work day finally came to an end, she went home to spend the rest of the day with her boyfriend Josiah.
