Prologue(2)

The shockwaves and tremors from the battle aboveground had penetrated the silence in the dungeons.

The once eerily quiet catacombs were now filled with roaring criminals pleading the guards to let them out. They were all clueless and had thought that a natural disaster had struck.

If an earthquake of that magnitude had struck the fortress... then one could already imagine the effect of it on the prisoners underground. No one wanted to die a dog's death, without a body to be buried in a coffin.

Unfortunately, none of the guards were present to hear the infidel's incessant cries for mercy. They had long been called above ground to survey the situation and to secure the entrances to the dungeons. Because if a prison-break were to happen in this situation....

A riot would definitely erupt within the inmates.

With the already mysterious attacks led by the enemy, a thousand or so prisoners suddenly rioting against them would definitely not be advantageous for the guards. They could barely hold out against the unstoppable barrage of one mad mage who had infiltrated the tower… with this thought a cold shiver ran down their backs.

They could definitely not let this happen.

However, all their efforts were useless. Rather than worrying about a break-out, had they even exerted a little effort to stop a break-in to the tower through the dungeons, they might have been able to alert the others to what was about to happen within the catacombs.

Alas.... it was too late...

Between the pleading prisoners and the ones who had already accepted their fate, there was one man patiently leaning his back against the wall. Naturally, it was the peculiar mage from before.

He had felt the shockwaves by leaning against the walls. This allowed him to get a good grasp on the battle upstairs, and once all the guards had rushed out to help, he knew it was time to act.

It was not that he was unable to fight the guards, rather, it was so that he would not alert the warden to his presence too early. The mighty paladin of the fortress had been wholly focused on the threats outside, leaving his back wide open.

A wry smile appeared on his face.

If, however, he acted prematurely by killing the guards.... The warden would have been alerted. Fortunately, with the chaos above ground, there was no way to differentiate which guards he would knock down from those that had been defeated outside.

He let out a deep sigh and stood up. The restrains he had on were still blocking his mana from working, but to someone on his level, these were just playthings that would only waste his time.

A strange darkness filled his eyes. With or without the chains, he would wipe out the guards.

He walked up to the bars blocking his cell...

-BAM!

In the blink of an eye, he had blasted open the cell with a kick, causing many prisoners to flinch.

"Someone was actually capable of breaking apart these dwarven bars?.... What a monster"

In an instant, all of these lowlifes had started begging him to break open their cells. A strange vigor filled their voice. They passionately believed he would help them out...

Unfortunately, their actions had only earned them contempt from the man.

" Noisy... I don't need you dogs to start barking"

The man sneered

However, despite his insults, the degenerates would not stay quiet. They had been confined here for years and treated like animals. Whatever happened, they would definitely not let an opportunity like this slip away.

"It seems like I will have to teach you all some manners

'Silence'

Instantly a demonic aura filled the chambers. All the prisoners could feel their necks stiffen up. This man was no joke. With a single thought, he had filled the room with a desolate pressure.

His aura barely allowed the prisoners to breathe, let alone shout.

"That's more like it, I like the silence much better".

He started stretching his body to loosen his muscles. Being constricted for a few days was not a pleasant feeling at all.

However, he kept the handcuffs on to suppress his mana to not alert the warden in any way possible. Then he slowly made his way to the spiraling staircase.

It seems his plan had worked, there were no soldiers guarding the stairway to the tower.

He started sauntering up the tower. With no one to disturb him, he felt like taking a long walk to the top. He was very patient because today...there was no way his prey could escape.

[Outside the fortress]

Five mages could be seen dashing towards the other sectors of the prison. Although there were still plenty of guards covering the other entrances, their speed was not something the human eye could perceive.

"Be quick; we have no time to waste."

Max was using the witch's ability to talk telepathically. The witch had already connected their minds to make it easy to communicate.

Once they reached the southern wall of the fortress the man glanced at the giant, seemingly ordering him to go. With not a single breath to waste, the giant had already charged towards the wall.

As the giant got closer, a bizarre sight could be seen. A wry smirk grew on the giant.

With a shout, his whole body had enlarged to 10 times his size!

At this time, the guards who were cluelessly guarding the wall had most certainly seen a nightmare. A giant had transformed completely into a 50-meter titan.

Rather than respond, most of the guards were paralyzed by fear. The titan which had charged in wasted no time in swinging its colossal weapon to completely shatter the nearby walls.

A brutal whirlwind had instantly manifested from his swing, completely engulfing the area. Everything had simply been blown away by the aftershock.

However... despite this monstrous blow, a strange golden light had blocked the tremors from completely taking effect. As a result, the inner walls had not been broken.

Instead, they had actually been reinforced by this shining barrier!

"Hnghh, so it's the warden... I didn't think that old man would be able to block this"

The titan had initially ignored Max's warning, but now he had to admit that the warden's defensive barriers were truly one of a kind.

However, instead of disappointment, an arrogant smirk had appeared on his face.

"HAHAHHAHHA, but who said it was my job to take care of the barriers?"

Max responded by erupting his mana, completely coating him in bright red energy. His magic was very peculiar, it allowed him to control the energy of the world itself.

In essence, he was a living weapon capable of mass destruction with ease. A truly terrifying power deserving respect.

He blinked towards the sky, moving almost instantaneously. The man brought his hands together, an enormous power held within them.

He aimed the attack towards the barrier.

Destructive energy surged through his hands, for an instant the whole world turned red.

After a single attack, the barrier crumbled before his might, this energy completely obliterated anyone and anything close to it.

Within instant, the fight outside was over.
