Chapter 11

Jinx

I walk back to my tent, shaken by what I had just seen. The question I keep asking myself is, who is the person who died? Can I save them? Fiona had asked me to keep the vision to myself, she didn't want to scare anyone because I was sure she thought it wss her. I enter the tent and see Ariel up and pacing. He sees me before he clears his throat,

"Can we talk," I look at him confused, I honestly don't know what there is for us to talk about, "About us." Ariel says shocking me. Well, I did kinda kiss him the other day, we were bound to talk about it sometime. I nod and walk to my bed and sit down, looking up at him.

"It was a mistake," Ariel begins, I look at him once again confused, "The kiss." he breaths.

"It wasn't for me, Ariel." I counter.

"I know that, but you hate my father and you want him dead and I want to save him, so this, whatever this is, isn't going to work."

Ariel finishes.

"You can't deny what you feel Ariel." I say standing. I take a step forward and am hurt when he steps back.

"I can," he says softly, "And I will. I never should have saved you, never should have helped you. Hell, I shouldn't have went to the forgery that night! I just don't know if I can trust you."

Ariel's words hit me deep into my core. I look at him when I realises he's serious. I begin to feel a hole in my chest form. My throat ties in a knot as I try to hold back the tears. What is this feeling? I should agree with him, I mean I bearly know him, and yet, everything feels right with him, but maybe he is right, this isn't the place or time.

I take a deep breath, "I understand." is all I say and walk out the tent. To where? I don't know, anywhere but there.

I find a big tree near the edge of the camp and sit underneath it. Tears begin to slip past my eyes. I wipe them away quickly. Get a grip, Jinx. He's just a stupid boy, a boy who isn't worth it. I sit there is silence before i hear twigs snap behind me. I crouch and approach the sound slowly and see a mage sneaking up on the camp. Well he definitely isn't one of us. An attack? But my vision didn't take place here. I need to warn the others. I shoot a red ball of magic high into the air, a sign of intruders and before I can turn to look back at the mage, something hard hits me behind the head, and all I see is black.

Ariel

Jinx left a while ago after we spoke. It went against my every fibre to tell Jinx that I wanted nothing to do with her, but it was the only way to protect my father. I have no idea what Jinx will do when she finds him again but I know that I need to be there to stop her, no feelings attached.

An explosion rocks the air and I run out the tent to see what is happening. Mages are running left and right, arming themselves. I see my mother in the corner of my eye and head over to her,

"What's happening?" I ask over the commotion.

"Intruders." Is all she says as she walks over to a group of mages with Axel close behind. I have no choice but to follow.

"Where's Jinx?" Axel asks me while mother talks to some of the scouts. I look around waiting to see her rush up to us but don't spot her anywhere. Axel grunts and goes to mother to help.

A ball of yellow magic explodes against an invisible barrier that surrounds the camp. Well that is good news isn't it? It means they can't enter the camp.

"Everyone is accounted for except Jinx." i hear a scout tell my mother. She looks over at me and I just pull up my shoulders. She sighs before sending up sparks into the sky creating a blinding white light. A feeling of nausea falls over me and I grab my stomach. Axel laughs when he sees me,

"First time's always the worst."

"First time for what?" I ask as I groan.

"To teleport." he says walking away.

Wait, if we teleported and Jinx wasn't with us, then that means we just left her behind. I rush over to mother,

"Mom, what about Jinx?"

"Jinx is a strong mage. She can hold her own, she'll find us." mother says patting mt shoulder before walking away, several mages follow her as she gives them instructions.

My head hurts so much. I touch the back of my head as I groan and sit up. I open my eyes and see a man sitting in front of me. Not this again. I sigh and focus on who is sitting before me. I'm startled when I see Zachary looking at me. He smiles,

"You must be Jinx." he says. I look around me, trying to figure out where I am. The room looks familiar. Of course it's familiar. This is the very room where the king interrogated me. I groan again and rest my head against the

wall behind me,

"I'm Zachary and I need your help."
