They stood amidst the bustling market square, surrounded by a multitude of individuals, or those who appeared to be individuals. Elven children darted about, their laughter filling the air, while merchants passionately extolled the virtues of their finest wares. The atmosphere resonated with mirth. Eve cast a glance at Auden, silently conveying that the time had come to proceed.
Though their disguises were not the most impeccable, they managed to divert attention for the moment. Clad in tattered brown garments, their hair neatly braided, a subtle charm emanated from their demeanor, yet it was not immediately discernible. Resolutely, they made their way through the bustling marketplace, traversing the labyrinthine crowd.
"Halt," Auden commanded, veering to her left and coming to a standstill by a merchant's stall.
The stall, crafted from bamboo sticks, shimmered with the polish of its displayed goods. Earrings, bracelets, and various accessories adorned the table, while handkerchiefs hung upon the wall, suspended by a humble rope. Though modest in appearance, it exuded an inviting sense of comfort.
"What are you selling good sir?" Auden asked as she looked delightfully at the merchant.
Eve endeavored to suppress her exasperation as Auden posed her seemingly oblivious inquiry. What could Auden possibly expect to discover beyond mere accessories amidst this stall? Eve pondered.
"Finest of the accessories, Madame! Have a look, once liked you won't refuse them." the merchant boosted about his collection.
Although his shop seemed shabby, his clothes were of silk. Finist quality at that, with his hands full of jewels.
"Are these jewels authentic?" Auden inquired, her voice resonating with curiosity, as she gingerly picked up one of the rings and slipped it onto her finger.
In an instant, everything turned into an abyss of darkness. Amidst an unsettling shiver, Auden found herself transported to a realm unknown. Rendered motionless and bereft of speech, she observed her own figure standing five feet away. Could it have been her doppelgänger? Yet, the person before her appeared all too real to warrant any further questioning.
The Auden standing before her was adorned in a resplendent gown, embellished with blue jewels that adorned her necklace and ring. Her hair was elegantly coiffed, secured in a regal bun, and crowned with a crown. By her side stood another figure, tall and robust, eternally captivating in his beauty. Gazing upon him felt almost sinful, as his eyes radiated a crimson hue. It was Elias.
They both began to speak, unraveling the mysteries of this bewildering encounter.
"I have heard saints telling me not to love, well now I know why I should have heard them." the clone of Auden proclaimed, tears brimming in her eyes.
"You loved me merely for your amusement, at most for the security of your abode. I was never anything for you to begin with other than a faint weapon to weaponize."
"you weren't. I don't run from the accusations but I still have to say. Everything I left for you, was real. Your Highness."
"Falsehoods! You deceive, Your Highness," Auden declared, tears cascading from her eyes.
"I love you, your highness. All my dedication, affection, and faith rests upon you. You're the sole liability of my wrecked-up life. But you still are a crown princess. Before my affection for you, comes my duty. I can't forsake either of them, am I too selfish for that?"
.......................................…
And thus, the darkness dissipated, returning Auden to the familiarity of the stall. "What ails you?" Eve questioned, observing Auden's shaken state. Without delay, Auden swiftly removed the ring from her finger and handed it back to the merchant. "What transpired within me?" she inquired, her voice tinged with uncertainty. Eve tenderly massaged her temple and replied, "You stood transfixed in that place for a brief moment or two." Concerned, the merchant interjected, "Madame, are you well?" Auden reassured him with regal composure, stating, "I am. Let us continue our journey, sister." And with resolute determination, she promptly strode away from the stall.
Eve quietly bids the merchant goodbye and follows Auden. "Must you be so reckless, sister?" Eve asked as she catches up to Auden.
Auden remained quiet, unsigned as cold sweat ran through her. Suddenly the children's chatter and people's smile didn't seem so pleasing rather sharp needles picked through her skin. She gasps for air as she speaks,
"Let's keep moving. I don't wish to ponder upon what happened there."
Upon the path, Auden remained silent, as did Eve. What could have provoked Auden to react so differently? Eve pondered. Presently, they arrived at the Crystals shop. The shop lived up to its name, with walls fashioned from exquisite amethyst and citrine, enveloped by radiance and shadow. The inexplicable splendor and vitality of the signs were captivating.
"Behold, we have arrived," uttered Eve.
"And so have you!" A red-headed woman approached Eve's vicinity and enfolded her in an embrace.
"I have eagerly awaited your arrival!" exclaimed the woman.
Eve tenderly smiled as she introduced this peculiar woman to Auden.
"Allow me to present Marquess Lianada De III, a staunch supporter of the royal lineage and the heiress of this resplendent establishment."
"I humbly pay my respects, Your Highness," the Marquess bowed with regal elegance.
"Dispense with futile formalities, Marquess," Eve graciously replied.
"Lianada shall suffice. Come, Your Highness, permit me to unveil the wonders of our crystalline treasures!"
